Reception Music

I love Weddingbee and search its archives all the time! Today I came across this post from Mrs. Bee, listing the top 100 requested reception songs. I know I found some that I am putting on my have-to-play list, and also some I am banning! This is from 2006, so it might have changed slightly, but you get the gist.

Three of the top 5 were already on my MUST play list, Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Home Alabama, and Hey Ya!. All are good old true Southern girl choices. :) Can I just say that I HEART that Def Leppard was in the top 10? As a child of the 80s, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi are on my list as well.

However, I am slightly disappointed that Love Shack is #6? Really? Also, as much as I love Lonestar’s Amazed (fantastic song, really and truly), it’s above At Last, What a Wonderful World, and Friends in Low Places? We as a society have issues.

What songs are on your play list?  Are you giving a list to your DJ or band or letting them wing it?

i looove “how sweet it is” as a cake cutting song! we used it. i also loved “perfect day” (legally blonde soundtrack) for the bouquet toss. as much as i love hip hop, we put a lot of it on our do-not-play list and advised our dj that we didn’t want to hear any songs with bad words or naughty implications. a couple of our guests were disappointed, but i’m sure the vast majority appreciated it.

great list….almost all of these are on my to-play list!

At a wedding I attended this summer, they started out the fast dancing with “Let’s Get It Started” it was a really good way to get things going. I have to agree some of the songs in the top 10 are pretty sad. ?????

I’m totally sending you my playlist. We had people dancing to the “classics” (har har) all night long!

one love photo, i almost picked that one for our wedding-party-gets-everyone-going dance but was afraid people might remember the original version and be offended. instead, i chose “let’s get this party started” by pink. same idea without the history.
