August Honeymoon Spots
When my fiance and I decided to get married, after choosing the venue and engagement ring, we couldn’t wait to start thinking about possible honeymoon locales. As a law student I have neither the time (nor the cash) to do much traveling, and as the honeymoon would also double as a post-bar trip for me, I wanted to find a great, laid-back place to while away a week or so in August. However, Europe pretty much shuts down for the month of August, and that’s the beginning of hurricane season in the Caribbean and Mexico (not to mention Florida). So, what’s an August bride to do?
Below, the top 10 August non-hurricane, non-Europe honeymoons for August brides.
1. Bora Bora: If you can afford it, which we can’t, it could be the closest you ever get to heaven on Earth.

2. Kauai: For a domestic, more affordable alternative to Bora Bora. (This will be my honeymoon!)
3. Japan: Because I fantasize about chilling out in the middle of nowhere, soaking in hot springs and doing yoga all day.
4. South Africa: A friend just got back from her post-bar trip to Stellenbosch, in South Africa’s wine country. She said it’s the most beautiful place she’s ever been. Just remember that August is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and dress accordingly.
5. Napa: If you just can’t swing a trip to South Africa, Napa surely won’t disappoint.
6. Acadia National Park: Best for the nature lover, Acadia is a breathtaking spot. And summer in Maine is sublime.
7. Australia: If you’re more ski bunny than beach bum, take advantage of Australia’s winter to do some skiing.
8. Bali: Though not quite as striking as Bora Bora, Bali is a heavenly escape from the stress of the wedding.
9. Santa Barbara: When I first started planning my wedding, I wanted it to be in Santa Barbara. I miss California since I moved back to the East Coast (my fiance and I met when we were living out West). Too bad it would have been impossible for the grandmas to make it out there, otherwise I think we’d have done it. Santa Barbara has great beaches, fantastic hotels and even its own wine country. It’s also just 1 1/2 hours from LA.
10. Las Vegas: In case you need any excuses to stay inside…Sure can’t go outside in Vegas in August, but isn’t that half the fun of the honeymoon? Let us know what you think in the Comments.

i’m going to Greece in August:) it’s in Europe, but I think a lot of Europeans actually go to the Greek islands during their August holidays!
Keeping it in the states would be so easy and cheap. I’m a law student as well, so I know the boat you are in! I grew up near Santa Barbara-there are so many beautiful places there. I went to college in San Diego-you will NOT run out of things to do and see there. If we didn’t live so close to Napa/SF I would think that would be a GREAT place to honeymoon. I am always relaxed when I’m in Napa drinkin vino! Of course I have friends who went to Bora Bora-I don’t think anything can compete with the see-through floor in the huts!
We went to Singapore and Bali and can I say it was the most amazing experience of our lives! Neither of us have left North America so it was extremely different than anything we’ve seen. We are dying to go back to Bali and hope to try to get back there in the next five years!
Vancouver island! Tofino has surfing, hot springs and great seafood. We’re going to have a mini-moon there. Wickanish Inn is suppose to be amazing.
Yay for Acadia! It’s so beautiful there!
I’m dying to go to Greece/Italy for our honeymoon - thank goodness we’re getting married in January! Bora Bora looks amazing though!
Have you considered Montreal? It has a very old world European feel to it, and wouldn’t be as pricey…
i’d love to go to Japan for my honeymoon!(and fulfill my bf’s dream of becoming a ninja!) Bora bora so far has yet to disappoint anyone who’s been there (dont you think?) Great list! :)
I’ve never had a honey moon i been married for 7 year .. but b-for my 10 anniversary i really will love to go to bora bora … my family travels alot and i always mention to them go to bora …but i guess they haven’t seen the adds … i just dream of this place .. all of u that been there consider ourselves lucky .. ok ppl ..i came i saw and didn’t conquer lol
Don’t make the mistake of “chancing it” in the Caribbean… We took our chances, and our honeymoon was hit by a serious hurricane. We made the best of it, but we wouldn’t recommend it.
