Invitation Inserts

Katherine writes in to ask:

Have you ladies seen any good posts or have any good ideas on what to include on the wedding invitation inserts? Besides the RSVP card, I am pretty lost.

Obviously, the setting of your wedding will dictate some of these inserts, but here’s a list of inserts you might want to include:

  • Accommodations card listing the room blocks you have reserved for your guests
  • Map and/or directions card from your host hotel(s) or the airport
  • If you are having your ceremony and reception at different locations, include a reception card with the name and address of the venue (you could also include directions from the ceremony location to the reception if you are not having programs at your ceremony that would include this information)
  • Include a schedule of events if your wedding celebration carries forward into a day-after brunch or backward into a welcome party
  • Include information on transportation from/to the event (are you hiring a trolley?  is the venue walking distance from the host hotel?  will guests need to rent a car if they are coming from out of town?)

Also, if you aren’t using a pocket-fold invitation, get creative with how you display the inserts in your envelope.  The simple ribbon tie pictured above is beautiful and allows you to bring in another color in your palette.

Kat, I hope this helps!

is it proper to have 2 versions of cards, one for out of towners and one for locals?

Absolutely! You could also have a different version for bridal party members if you wanted, giving them rehearsal dinner information.

You could also have a ’story’ card that gives you a chance to tell your guests the story of how you and your fiance met; or a story of how you got engaged. My husband and I did a story card that expressed both stories and we got a great response! It was very personal and people felt more a part of ‘us’ on our wedding day!

Great post! :) If you’re looking for more help on how to put the invitations together in a traditional order, take an earlier post we did…
