Beginning Embroidery Stitches

As usual, my Saturday post takes inspiration from what I’ve been doing this weekend.  Today was all about learning how to embroider.  Here is a wonderful blog post that I found with the beginning embroidery stitches and easy instructions to follow!

Clockwise: Running Stitch, Whipped Running Stitch, Back Stitch, Couching, Stem Stitch, Outline Stitch

If you’re like I am, you know the back stitch and the running stitch from your sewing.  The others were pretty simple to learn and I have been doing some fun patterns today already!  Think of what you can customize with just some simple stitching: attendant’s gifts, handkerchiefs for your mother and grandmother, or even your bouquet wrap!

Happy Saturday!

Real Weddings: Rachel + Patrick

Heather from Eclectic Images shared a few images from a recent wedding of one of our readers! Rachel and Patrick married at Casa Blanca in Round Rock a few weeks ago and the wedding was lovely! Remember these centerpieces from earlier in the week? All DIY by Rachel.

Choosing a Cake

Okay, so I know I’m going a little out of order, but I wanted to get your advice on something I’m trying to choose right now – the cake design!

I’ve met with a baker who I really like, is very reasonable, and who did a cake for a friend’s wedding (which was really very yummy!).  So now I just need to kind of narrow down my choices of design and choose one so I can get a more accurate quote and we can go ahead and book her.  Who knew that choosing a cake would be so difficult?!?  I certainly didn’t anticipate it being such a difficult decision.  But I’m telling you, it’s the small decisions that drive you nuts!  I know it’s not as big of a deal as choosing your dress, and I’m not planning on using it as high art, but I would still like it to be pretty nonetheless.  So will you, dear EAD readers, help me out?

While the colors shown will not necessarily be what we would use, we have narrowed it down to the following options:

Baseball E-Pics

I. AM. IN. LOVE.  With the Atlanta Braves.  And with Altmix Photography and their engagement session with Amy and Chad at (you guessed it) a Braves game.  Swoon.

What’s more summer than Atlanta and baseball?  This shot is great – it was taken at the top of the park where you can see both the skyline and the game.

Favorite DIY Projects

Here are a few of my favorite DIY wedding projects right now….

{Image Credits (clockwise from top left): Matthew Mead, Eclectic Images, Absolutely Beautiful Things, Eclectic Images}

Treats for out of town guest or the new bride and groom: Who wouldn’t want this?
Clothespin and mason jar escort cards: Um, mason jars? Clothespins? Check and Check!
More than just floral centerpieces: Love anything that doesn’t consist of a round table with a simple centerpiece in the middle.
Garden in a box centerpieces: I’m going to have to try this at home.

Enjoy!

Lime Green and Red

Lime green is SO “in” (Kathryn agrees).  I love the whimsical, playful pairing of lime and red for a summer event!

Fruit is a great complement to the floral with a vibrant color scheme like this.  Serve some red appletinis!

Ready 2 Spark

Our new blog of the week is Ready 2 Spark. Written by Lara, a Canadian bride-to-be and DIY extraordinaire, ready 2 spark is filled with creative ideas, inspiration, and humor. Make sure to check out the fabulous invitations for her wedding!

Real Weddings: Lauren + Craig 5.24.08

Continuing our unofficial kickoff of summer we have a gorgeous wedding shot by Rae Leytham and designed by the girls at Bliss Event Group!  You know this wedding is bound to be fabulous with that combination at work.

These centerpieces drew me in immediately.  How inventive is this?  Single flowers in shot glasses and bud vases.  This would be incredibly easy to DIY, although Lauren and Craig had the luxury of using the fantastic Wall Flowers for their decor.
