The Search For That Perfect Dress

I don’t think it’s any secret that the most fun part about wedding planning for a newly engaged woman is shopping for the dress. Because my parents live in Dallas, I was so excited that I could spend time with my mom and search for gorgeous fashion in the South’s most fashionable city.

I made appointments at Patsy’s Bridal, Warren Barron Bridal, Saks Fifth Avenue, Stanley Korshak, and Neiman Marcus. We decided not to set a budget for the dress until we could shop around and see what I liked and what seemed to be reasonable. I’m not a label snob, but I really wanted to wear a dress that made a statement and one that I’ve always dreamed of wearing. I didn’t know if I wanted lace, beading, no lace or beading, ballgown, trumpet, or A-line because I just didn’t know what would like best on me. Even after I thought I’d found the dress I wanted to keep shopping because I knew I’d never get to do it again.

The saleswoman at Patsy’s helped me determine very quickly that ballgown was the right look for me. My waste is so small compared to my hips and ballgown really accentuated that. Here are a few of my favorites from the weekend.

These were all beautiful, but I never felt quite like myself in them. I definitely felt beautiful, but I was looking for something simple, structured, tailored without being tight, with clean, lovely lines. And I found it. It’s a Carolina Herrera with no embellishment at all. I found it at Warren Barron Bridal in Highland Park Village in Dallas where the ladies are wonderful! We paired it with the Angel Sanchez veil to bring in a little of my love for things that are old/look old.

wow - you are a princess! excellent choice. i’m looking forward to the pics from your wedding day.

Congrats on finding your dress, it looks like you really love it. Did you feel wiped out after going to that many shops in one day?

I actually did it over 3 days. I did all of the appointments in 2 days and then did repeat visits to see my favorite three dresses again on the third day. I had pretty much already made up my mind at that point, though. It was very tiring. Mostly because of all the boning in the dresses… my RIBS hurt!

Its probably a good thing that none of the first ones felt like “you”. You looked so great in all of them I have no idea how you would have ever chosen!!

You look gorgeous. And it looks like the back has some nice details as well. I had a really rough experience trying on dresses- I wanted them all. I did LOVE looking for the engagement ring, though. I would so do that again. LOL

Of course you would!!! Ha!

Those details in the back of the dress…. those are the orange clips that they use to hold the dress on me! I tried to get them for the bridesmaids dresses, too, but they wouldn’t sell them to me. j/k!

Oh, you are just so adorable in all of them. I love what you chose, I am all about clean lines and timeless dresses.

you made the right choice - the CH looks stunning!!!
question for you: who designed the first dress that you tried on (top left corner)… i love that one too and have been looking for a dress of that shape and colour!
