Because our ballroom was so grand and elaborate, our reception didn’t require a lot of decoration. We chose a ballroom with a gorgeous damask fabric wall covering in gold after we determined that our colors were pink and gold. The room had gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful gold drapes. The room is actually called the Gold Room at the Westin Poinsett Hotel.

Our biggest issue with the hotel was the linen choice. We didn’t have any choice. If we used their linens, we would have white polyester linens. I’m not a linen snob or anything, but I knew we could do better. We went to BBJ Linen in Dallas and ordered beautiful sheer pink and gold linens. We ended up having 9 round tables to seat 10 each because we wanted people to have the option to sit down if they wanted to. We also had 4 high top tables and a giant round buffet table in addition to the 3 food stations. The linens turned out to be gorgeous and I’m so glad we splurged there.

I also had a beautiful table runner monogrammed and used it on the bride’s cake table. Our cake was almond buttercream and then we had one layer of red velvet cake. How Southern! We had it decorated in pale pink icing with gold ribbon and white peonies. Todd and I also asked our moms for our silhouette profiles from when we were little and had them framed to match.

Instead of a groom’s cake, we had miniature white chocolate banana cream pies from Soby’s, our favorite Greenville restaurant. We used my mom’s friend’s scales of justice (because Todd is an attorney) to display two white chocolate banana cream pies and then set the mini pies around the scales on the table.

I originally wanted all peonies everywhere. We got married in May, so they were in season. But boy! They are expensive! Because flowers ended up not being my top priority (or even close to a top priority), I chose to go with various shades of pink roses and ivory roses in gold revere bowls. Libby Munn, our florist, added other touches to bring some modern life to our arrangements.

I created little table signs for each of our tables using our lace design. The tables were named after important events, places, teams, and street names in our life. And one was named after Boudreaux, our lovable Golden Retriever.
