Cakes and Desserts
Cakes and desserts are a major focus for the event. The cake can add to the aesthetic, and create an additional design element. The wedding cake does not need to be elaborate or complicated. Over the past few years, we have been recommending dessert tables, scattered with old-fashioned cakes, pies, and treats. Also, recently for summer weddings, we have been recommending gelato and Italian ice carts. This past weekend, our clients had an ice cream cake in addition to the dessert bar. They topped the cake with “bride & groom” rubber ducks. We also like the idea of the self-serve dessert bar, as it creates another opportunity to guests to interact at your wedding. Here are some photos of our favorite displays.
In this image we have an assortment of desserts and a display of different types of mousse. The desserts came from Vanilla Bakeshop in Santa Monica. The owner, Amy, was recently on Martha Stewart.

These two images highlight work from Marcy Brownstein Catering. The drinks and cheese plates had fantastic presentation and reinforced the aesthetic of the event. The event below features an old fashioned dessert bar, consisting of pies, cakes and cookies. This event was featured in Martha Stewart and was a collaboration between Artfool and LHE.

Are you choosing cakes, a dessert display, cupcakes, or another form of sweets?

Everything looks SO good and SO scrumptious!
I love Vanilla Bakeshop!! Everything is sooooo cute!
And… now I am craving cupcakes. Sigh.
:-) Gorgeous stuff!
So many choices now! Many of my clients are choosing to have a dessert and bag the cake ( smaller in most cases) for “take out”. I have an Asian bride who is putting cupcakes in Chinese take out boxes as favors. Imagination and a flair for adventure is the key!
