At first I resented the fact that my venue (The Central Park Boathouse) restricted me by contract to a short list of three florists. Then, upon further investigation, I resented how much wedding flowers cost, no matter where you get them!
So I got this crazy idea. I decided I was going to purchase bulk flowers and arrange them myself. I was going to do this without any real training, after taking the bar exam for two straight days, in my tiny NYC apartment, with only a standard-size refrigerator.
This was the plan. I even signed up for a floral arranging seminar at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. About two hours into it, I think I finally came to my senses. I wanted to save money on my wedding as much as the next bride, but that was just ridiculous.
So I paid a visit to Lenox Hill Florist. It was close, it was (relatively) cheap, it was approved by the Boathouse. Needless to say, my expectations were somewhat low. I ordered what I thought I needed, and didn’t really give it much more thought before the big day.
Despite the apparent photographic genius of Peter Doyle, his photographs simply cannot do justice to the magnificence and beauty of my wedding day flowers. I was floored. They were absolutely stunning.

YOU DID THOSE?! they look as professional as they come and not only professional but absolutely beautiful!!! GREAT JOB!
To save money, I did the floral arrangements for my sister in law’s wedding. I should totally blog about what an insanity that was and the respect for the price and trade of floral design. You saved yourself a lot of headaches by hiring a florist and the end results are stunning.
No, no. I didn’t do them! I should post the picture I snapped of the arrangement I did actually make. Not horrifying, but not wedding-worthy. Those lovely flowers shown on the blog were by Lenox Hill Florist, and I recommend them wholeheartedly for anyone’s NYC wedding flower needs.
These look so amazing! I love the colors, so rich!
I’m glad your florist worked out, it’s always a nice surprise when your flowers turn out to be more than you expected on your big day.
While I’m always a fan of DIY, florals can be really tricky and can take away a lot of time from your big day! These turned out lovely and really ‘make’ the look of the wedding!
