		<description>@jls - the sealer is used because wood is porous and sealer helps you to have a smooth surface to paint on.  and yes to varnish!  you want to end up with an even surface and have everything protected.  

it was really time consuming, but i really loved the end result!</description>

		<description>I really like this idea.  Can I ask why you used the sealer?  And I&#039;m guessing you used the varnish to coat the whole thing so the letters wouldn&#039;t get scratched off?  I am trying to pare down my DIY projects, and I really like this but it seems...very....time consuming.  :-)</description>
