The groom’s cake is a huge Southern tradition and I couldn’t resist sharing these beautiful matching bride and groom cakes! I love that the cakes echo each other but are subtly different too.

Are you having a groom’s cake? Will it be something fun or something elegant?

I think the best part about groom’s cakes are that… they aren’t worried about being frilly and pretty, they just have to taste good! Amen to that! :)
[...] The fabulous wedding/lifestyle bloggers over at Elizabeth Anne Designs posted today about Stacy and Bubba’s cakes from last Saturday! Check it out here…. [...]
I love the tradition of having a groom’s cake! My fiance hates cake, but loves cheesecake, so we’re doing a cherry-topped cheesecake for his groom’s cake. I’m definitely a big fan of elegant groom’s cakes rather than “fun” ones, though!
What is a groom’s cake for?
I’m from Australia and we don’t do that here so I don’t know the reason behind this!
I love the groom’s cake tradition as well! I am doing a fun groom’s cake for my fiancee-its a surprise to him. He wants an ice cream wedding cake (I had to explain the logistics of why that wont work several times =o) ). He went to Ohio State and is a die hard fan, so I am having an OSU Buckeyes Ice Cream cake made. We’re cutting our cake right after we are announced at the reception, so we’ll present it to him then and he can have it with dessert!
@emma hi! the groom’s cake is a tradition largely based in the southern US where a second, usually smaller, cake goes along with the usual wedding cake. a lot of times that grooms cake is a different flavor (maybe chocolate, or red velvet, etc) than the regular cake and many times it is also something fun that represents the groom, such as what kelly mentioned above where theirs will be ohio state themed!
Thanks Elizabeth :-)
Instead of a groom’s cake, we’re having a groom’s pie bar with Tollhouse pies. My fiancé originally wanted a cookie cake, but we finally landed on Tollhouse pies as a little nicer (and a little gooey-er!) option to complement our wedding cupcakes.
