Many thanks to everyone for the lovely comments and apologies for the delay in replying.

Talitha,

I really like the idea of customising the wine lables but on this occasion the origin and significance of the wines selected is very important to us and we want to share that with our guests.

Heather,

What a great idea! Fun and productive. I look for very specific qualities in a party wine. Prioritising freshness and satisfaction over complexity. This generally equates to a cheaper price and the deals you have found sound great! I really like the idea of getting your friends involved, it is possible to overthink wine selection a bit and this is a great dry run for your selections.

Maybe I should some more time "selecting"!

I forgot to mention that we served the same food we'd be having at the wedding (salmon and some chicken) which made the pairing even more fun. We tried them before lunch and then with lunch, and it was fun to see the differences.

My younger brother is a huge wine fan, so my fiance and I gave him a budget -- no more than $15 a bottle -- and sent him our menu and told him to find one white, one red, and a prosecco. The red we found was $5 at Trader Joe's, and the prosecco will probably be $6 each from TJs too.

How are we choosing the wines? Tonight we had a blind wine tasting event with lots of friends and 11 bottles of white wines under $10 each. Most of the wines were from TJ's and Cost Plus, and the winner was a Trader Joe's Frequent Flyer wine that was $4 or $5 a bottle (I don't remember). It was a great evening for friends, and we didn't spend a lot to get a lot of opinions and arrive at a clear winner.

Wow, I think it's great that you've put so much thought into choosing the wine for your wedding! If making a good impression with your wine, aside from your good taste, is important to you, have you thought about custom wine labels?

My fiance and I also love wine and we found a company who can do custom wine labels (we matched our labels to our invitations!) that will look beautiful at the reception. The company is called bottleyourbrand.com and they have great prices and they're fast.

It might be worth it to dress up your wine a bit!
