{Stationery Thursday} – Silhouettes!

I absolutely adore the recent trend of using silhouettes as design inspiration in weddings.  Whether incorporated as a small design detail or the inspiration for the overall wedding theme, silhouettes can be easily integrated into many wedding details, from the Save the Dates to the favors.  I’ve collected a few of my favorite silhouette designs here to help provide some design inspiration.

Let’s start off with some Save the Date inspiration.  I love the way the Save the Date design below complements the follow-on invitation, both by Posh Paperie:

For an alternative Save the Date idea, you could have prints made featuring custom silhouettes of you and your fiancé, like these from Nella Designs.  The Save the Date prints could be a larger size suitable for framing, or a smaller post card size with your wedding location and date stamped or printed on the back:

I also love that silhouettes can work in any color palette, from a classic and crisp black & white (or even red) to a more muted palette with grays, blues and greens.  Invitation design options range from strinkingly modern to whimsical vintage-inspired to everything in between:

This incredibly sweet silhouette design above from Bird and Banner is one of my favorites!

Though not a traditional silhouette design, paper cut silhouettes, like the invitation above from paper cut artist Rob Ryan, translate into lovely wedding invitations.

The graphic silhouette design above from Lily Darby {via Style Me Pretty} evoke the feeling of a modern wedding with vintage design sensibility.

These silhouette invitations from Mr. Boddington’s Studio would be perfect for a classic wedding.

And the silhouette invitation above from Emily Ink would be fabulous for a vintage-inspired wedding.

You could even use silhouette cards to ask your friends to join your wedding party!

For escort cards or place cards, you could have a custom stamp made with your silhouette and work with a calligrapher to inscribe guests’ names each card.  Try modern art stamps or sweet paperie via etsy, or Simon Stamps for custom stamp orders.  Or you could ask your stationer to print escort cards with the silhouette from your invitations and guests’ names at the bottom.

For an additional special touch, consider hiring a silhouette artist to provide custom silhouettes as favors (and a lovely keepsake) for your guests…

…or if a silhouette artist isn’t in your budget, silhouette cookies would also make lovely favors:

That’s it for this week!  I’ll be back next Thursday with more stationery inspiration.  Until then, as always, you can find me over at (Oh So) Beautiful Paper!
