I’ve told you all about finding my dress and about the two-day fiesta we’re planning, so it likely won’t come as much of a surprise that I’m on the hunt for a cute ivory/white dress to wear that weekend in addition the official wedding dress. Following our ceremony on Friday evening we’re treating our closest friends and family to a champagne and dessert reception and the thought of dropping something on my dress, or for that matter someone else dropping something on my dress, is enough to make me shudder. So I’m looking for something short, cute, sassy and reasonably affordable to change into after our ceremony and likely to wear after hours following our Saturday reception, too. I haven’t had a ton of luck as of yet, so I’m considering finding a bridesmaid dress I like and ordering it in ivory, but if I’m going to do that I’ll have to act soon. If anyone has any suggestions pretty please feel free to send them my way, but in the meantime here are a few I really like, but can’t quite commit to right now…

This Nicole Miller dress from edressme is oh so pretty…but it also costs more than my wedding dress. Yikes!

This fun little dress by BCBG at Macy’s is much more affordable, but I wonder if it’s too silver and not white/ivory enough and even possibly a bit too casual?

This gorgeous Maggy London via Nordstrom is chic and sophisticated, but it feels a bit more “bride at a business meeting” than “bride at a cocktail party” to me.

This dress is also Maggy London at Nordstrom and really pretty, but I just don’t see this shape making the most of my curves.

I love the sweet simplicity of this JCrew dress, but having recently lost 100 lbs and counting, lightweight fabrics like silk and jersey can be very difficult for me to pull off without a good heavy lining.

I really adore this modern layered dress by Banana Republic, but again it just seems far too casual and a bit covered up for the occasion.
And so the dress hunt continues! Hopefully I can find something that fits all of my criteria (short, affordable, sassy, and not too flimsy) and doesn’t break the bank and in a time frame that will allow me to reconsider if an online purchase proves not to be all it’s cracked up to be. I’ll be sure to share when I finally find my dress, but in the meantime is anyone else on the hunt for a second dress for your wedding festivities?

I really want a cute short dress for our after party. I orginally thought about the Breeze dress by Claire Pettibone until I found out it is $3500!!! And so then I have contacted a lady who makes wedding dresses to make a very simple knock off of it mixed with a bit of a short dress by Holly Stadler (Ps. that dress is gorgeous and $350). But David’s Bridal has some cute white graduation dresses I have seen. Plus, Macys! Seriously. They have cute stuff. Plus, JCrew sale page has tons. Tons.
Yeah, I’ve been through this search too so I know how you feel.
My friend just purchased the BCBG dress for her rehearsal dinner (July wedding) and it is much more beautiful in person. In my opinion, the dress is not too silver. It’s definitely white, not ivory, but the silver is just enough sparkle to really make the dress look special. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the options you show, though!
I just purchased a second dress for a brunch after. It’s classic, yet unique and runs about $200. You can see it here, http://www.bcbg.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3458788&cp=2769162.2768985&view=all&parentPage=family or on a real person (me) on my blog at blushandbashfulbride.blogspot.com. While I was trying on white dresses, I almost bought another one, but ultimately decided it was too fancy for a brunch. I can’t find it online, but it was also at bcbg and had an ivory silk cap sleeve top with a touch of beading and a beautiful contrasting texture, ivory tulip skirt. It was soo cute and distinctive. I would love to see anyone wear it for a wedding.
have you seen these wedding dress alternatives by jenny yoo?

I have the Jcrew dress you listed and would highly recommend it!! The weave of silk they use is really heavy so it’s not clingy and figure-flaw-showing like most lightweight silks.
If you have a Jcrew store near you, you could always order it when they offer free shipping (nearly all the time!) and if it doesn’t work out, you can just return it to the store and don’t lose out on any money!!
This site always lists all the current Jcrew free shipping/discount offers: http://jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com/

i ordered this dress in ivory with ivory lace – it was much cheaper since its a bridesmaid dress and its very flattering
I am also looking for two dresses for our wedding festivities! We are having 2 ceremonies, a small family church one in the morning and a large farm one in the evening. My farm wedding dress will be the more traditional one…long, strapless, lace…from Casablanca Bridal. I just found the small morning ceremony dress yesterday when it arrived from Nordstrom. I had ordered one dress from JCrew- the Sophia and 2 from Nordstrom. I actually just got the one you listed with the ruffles, by Maggie London. I will warn you…its REALLY short. I am a tall girl, but still…it was like a long shirt on me! On the model it looks longer. I ordered this dress (see link below) and absolutely love it. I think it will be the one. I also wanted the Nicole Miller dress from edressme but they only had one size available and it was quite expensive.
