A friend/former bride gave me some great advice. She said to ask your caterer to pack some food for you and your groom to enjoy after the festivities -- later that night or the next day. We definitely plan to do this! Who doesn't enjoy leftovers?!

Hi Shelley! I think you're right. It's dependent on the caterer you're looking at, as well.

However, even if you can't schedule a free tasting, usually caterers attend events (such as bridal shows or open houses at venues) where they offer free samples of some of their menu options, so you can at least get an idea of what you'll be getting.

Maybe the "free tasting" varies depending on where you live. I was looking at caterers in Boston and none of them offered free tastings. We paid $25-35 per person for the tastings. They were only "free" if you ended up going with that caterer.
