I was thinking about this post last night and realized that the new BARE by Solo line might be a good fit for this. I’m a bride-to-be but I also work with a company that represents Solo. I’m not sure if you’ve found something already, but this line has compostable and renewable dinner plates (including one with a square look) and has a sleek modern look about it. As a German girl following the blog, it was amazingly funny to read about the German goodies you included in your menu. I am so convinced it will be delicious! I also really like the idea of using bamboo plates, which you could possibly personalize with little “brandings” on the rims in a DIY project.

What about using bamboo plates? they might be a tiny bit more expensive, but they biodegrade in like 6 months of use… :) that’s what we are leaning towards because of their green factor!
