{Stationery Thursday} Eco-Friendly Invitations

:

I know many of you are looking for ways to help protect the environment while still having a beautiful wedding.  So, in honor of Earth Day, I thought that I’d focus on a few of my favorite options for gorgeous, eco-friendly wedding invitations.

First, work with an invitation studio that prints with tree-free paper (or if they don’t specify the paper, ask if they can use tree-free paper for your invitations) .  Many studios, including Smock Paper, Bella Figura, Delphine Press, Earthly Affair, and many others, now print on cotton or bamboo paper using soy-based inks – with gorgeous results (particularly for letterpress):

Second, try wood veneer!  I know this probably sounds counter-intuitive, but some companies that offer wood veneer invitations, such as Oslo Press, use industrial extras when creating their wood invitations to help minimize landfill waste:

Third, use fabric!  Whether screenprinted onto vintage handkerchiefs or laser printed onto beautiful fabric swatches, fabric is a totally acceptable alternative to paper invitations.  Design studios Bird and Banner and Lucky Luxe Correspondence regularly print onto fabric, and the lovely Peonies from Peonies and Polaroids created beautiful fabric invitations for her own wedding last August:

Those are my favorite ideas for eco-friendly invitations – what are yours?  Is anyone choosing to work with design studios that use environmentally-friendly materials and production methods?
