@Anne I love that this is a German tradition! Nick was actually born in Germany, so knowing this makes it extra meaningful for us. Thanks for sharing!

Until my best American friends got married a few years ago, I didn't know that in the US it is common to have non-matching wedding bands. However, in Germany it is indeed (still) very common that the bands match, because you want to show that you belong together. And I think that's what it is about - not about a sparkly wedding band (we have the engagement ring to shine and shine and shine...), but something matching, which you can wear at any occasion and possibly never take of again from the moment he puts it on your finger...
Wish you all the best!

I'm so glad you posted this because I have an engagement ring with diamonds on the band like yours and was worrying about whether it will look good with the plain gold band I plan to get (because like you, my fiance and I want matching bands). I haven't seen pictures of this anywhere on the internet, so it's nice to know at least one other person is doing it!

It looks like you made a great choice! I know designers like SES Creations makes matching bands that aren't as gaudy. Very simple and classic.
