However, in Germany it is indeed (still) very common that the bands match, because you want to show that you belong together. And I think that's what it is about - not about a sparkly wedding band (we have the engagement ring to shine and shine and shine...), but something matching, which you can wear at any occasion and possibly never take of again from the moment he puts it on your finger...
