I had a crap experience at Vera Wang too. Actually, the staff was nice, but the dresses were all very fitted throughout the midsection and ALL strapless (I was looking for a non-strapless, A-line gown). Maybe I'm not fashion forward enough but I just didn't get the whole VW mania. Or maybe I just don't have the right body for her stuff. Abby, it’s a shame they didn’t let you try on the dress!! However, I agree with other commenters – you looked smashing in your original dress. I definitely do think it’s bridal enough. :)

I feel lucky in that I only ended up going to two places to shop for a wedding dress, both high end salons, and both had no problems with letting me take pictures, writing down the style numbers or anything else I requested. I had no idea you couldn’t even take pictures until reading these comments! It’s too bad you moved from San Francisco, one of the ones that was so awesome to me was down in Los Gatos!

yaayyyy!! I have been thinking about you lots, hoping that you would at the very least, give yourself some time!! I still think the BCBG dress is gor-geous, and I am secretly (or not!) hoping to one day see wedding pictures with you wearing it!! The uptight bridal salons were so against my wedding mantra, I never stepped foot into one! I bought a simple Nicole Miller sheath on ebay, and haven’t looked back since… ok, that’s not totally the truth, I did find an amazing BCBG dress (short, totally NOT a wedding dress), which I ended up buying for the rehearsal!! Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!!

I just found out from a friend that its sometimes the designers that won’t allow the bridal shops to take pictures because they don’t want them posted on the internet in case they look bad on the brides.

Hey Abby,

I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing (I know we all want one of a kind dresses!) but I wanted to share this with you anyway. Your firs post came just one week before I was supposed to go dress shopping (begrudgingly, I am just not a bridal gown person, more of a white Oscars gown sorta gal). Well, I was SO inspired by how amazingly gorgeous you looked in the BCBG dress, and what it does for your already kickin’ body, that I had to try it on when I went dress shopping (it doesn’t hurt that a friend of mine works for the company too).

It turns out, it was the right dress for me too. I bought it there on the spot and haven’t looked back. Thanks to you. :)

So take that as you will, but I just wanted to send a testament to how great you look in that dress. All that said, it is your choice to wear whatever makes your heart sing on your wedding day. But the BCBG looked so good on you that it made me go “Damn! I gotta get me one o’ THOSE!” – and I’m not sure if I was talking about the dress. ;)

The place where I got my dress had a strict no-pictures rule, which I agree, is stupid. I got around it since my mom was in NC and I was in Alabama, I went to the dress place alone the first time and told them I'd have to show her the pictures to decide. Shops should realize that lots of people decide against bridal stores based on how they are treated there, I bet they lose more business that way than they would by letting people know what style a dress is. kelly’s most recent blog post: Wedding Dress- The Result

I'm sure you'll find the right dress for you. I found the no pictures allowed rule at some of the shops I went to. I too didn't understand why they wouldn't let you take a picture. Especially if it's just one to see what you look like in it. Linda’s most recent blog post: A Bloggy Meme

I have had the same experience, of not being allowed to take pictures, at every single “high-end” bridal shop I’ve been too – not just the designer ones. It’s disheartening for sure.
