One of the things that dr. dave and I had debated prior to the wedding was whether we would see each other prior to the ceremony or not. While we both liked the tradition of not seeing one another until the moment I was walking down the aisle, there were a few factors that led to our decision to have a “reveal” prior to the ceremony. The number one factor was timing…after all, our ceremony wasn’t set to begin until 7 p.m., with a reception to start immediately after. Had we waited to see each other, we would have had to take all pictures after the ceremony, which would have taken forever! Because we had so many out-of-town guests who were on a different time zone, we figured it was better to just get right to the food!
We also had heard that the intimate “reveal” can be very sweet and special, allowing you to have a more private moment together before the madness ensues! Thus, we decided to do a reveal before the ceremony, and take our bridal party pictures beforehand as well. We decided to switch locations for these, and took these at the Colorado School of Mines campus. Our photographers Andrew and Jessica were gracious enough to play along, and they helped loosen us all up and took some great shots, which I’ll show you later! For now, here are the pictures from the reveal…
Even though it was raining constantly the entire day, it didn’t dampen either of our spirits. We were just so excited to see each other and get married with our friend and family all there, that nothing could bring us down, even if something was going wrong.

Awesome pics! I love the grin dr. dave has on his face as you’re walking up…too cute! We are planning on doing a pre-ceremony reveal too and get all the bridal party pics in before so we can enjoy as much of our reception as possible.

We’re planning on doing a “first look” reveal as well. I absolutely love the pictures that are captured in these special moments when the bride sees her groom all dressed up and when the groom sees his bride in her wedding dress for the first time!

We’re contemplating doing a “first look” but we are both still on the fence. Looking back, were you happy that you did it that way? I ask because we are both so concerned that it could lessen the emotions that come with first seeing each other walking down the aisle.

The reveal was a great idea and I’m so glad that you and Dave decided to do it.
Rebecca: in retrospect…yes! We’re still glad we did the reveal. We were torn for a long time, too…we just weren’t sure we wanted to ruin the “surprise.” But really, having that one moment, just for the two of you, where you can laugh and hug and kiss each other, was sweet and intimate. Dr. dave said it really eased his nerves to see me before the ceremony, and I felt the same way. Of course, coming down the aisle won’t be that surprised feeling you’re expecting, because you’ve already seen each other…but then again, I don’t think anything can lessen the emotion of walking down the aisle to your husband-to-be, regardless of whether you’ve seen him or not! :) It’s a very personal decision; and again, for us it was mostly timing that made us decide to do it that way.
