Things I Like: Succulents

Ever since I first saw this on snippet & ink, I’ve been in sold on succulents:

succulent-board
{ inspiration board from Snippet & Ink; Top row from left: trumpet flower by Georgia O’Keeffe, jewelry and succulents both from Martha Stewart Weddings, photo by Next Exit via Black Eiffel; Row 2: church photo by Elizabeth Messina via The Bride’s Cafe, cocktails from Martha Stewart Weddings, dress from Brides UK, succulent boutonniere from In Style Wedding; Row 3: bouquet by Pam Zsori, save-the-date by Peter Kruty, cookies via Cannelle et Vanille, pressed paper invitation from Invite Site; Row 4: calligraphy by Betsy Dunlap, cactus centerpieces from Life + Limb, branch place setting photo by Gemma Comas, aloe photo by Ericka McConnell}

I adore this whole feel. The coolness, the textures, ugh, I want all of it. Since then, I’ve fallen even more in love with the idea of being able to enjoy the flowers and centerpieces from our wedding for years and years to come.

So, today I went through all the blogs that I follow and found a TON, I mean a TON of entries that showed off some super succulents. Green Wedding Shoes had an amazing post dedicated to succulents that I pulled a lot of this from, but quite a few blogs have featured them. Here’s a collection of some of my favorites! (If you’re sick like me and want to see ALL the ones I found, you can view my succulent tags).

Perhaps this color scheme could work for the feel of our venue?

I love how this one uses African Violets. I remember my grandpa always had African Violets in the house and I think it would be great if we could incorporate them.

How much do I wish that I lived in LA to go to a floral arranging class at Dandelion Ranch?

I think it’s neat how these are placed right onto the branches. Can they survive for long like that though?

Style Me Pretty featured Kelly + Chris’ wedding chock full of succulent succulents. LOVE it. I was on succulent overload and am having a VERY difficult time picking out of the gorgeous photos from the event (I heart Erin Heart’s Court !)

And finally, a couple more from Kelly + Chris’ wedding of the bouts and bridesmaids’ bouquets:

Check out Kelly’s new post-wedding venture, succulent love too!

Now the challenge of just figuring out how to make them fit with the other ideas we have. More on that later, but if you have any ideas on how to incorporate succulents into a “secret garden” meets “rustic mediterranean” theme…I’m all ears :)

  1. I think that if you love the succulents, you should let the theme evolve to include them. I think they work for the lush feeling anyway, especially in a mixture with other flowers.

  2. Great post, I’ve been loving succulents too, just posted about them on my blog so I’ve linked to this-so many fab photos.

I am looking for a florists in Washington State that will do succulents for my daughters wedding next August. Do you have any recommendations?

  4. Debbie,
I am sorry but am on the other side of the country and don’t know much about florists in Washington State! I would take a look at the vendors on the EAD weddings homepage and maybe give the florists listed in your area a call to see if they’d work with you?
    Good luck in your search!

    Debbie,
I have a client who might be able to accommodate your need in WA state. Though I am currently building her website so I cannot direct you to any visual work at this time. Feel free free to contact me at [email protected] and I can pass along her contact information.

Congratulations on your daughters upcoming wedding,

    Steve
