Ha this is great! This resonated with me because I'm mostly into indie rock and he's into Phish. We compromised by deciding to play his music during the dinner hour, and then letting me have free rein over the dance music. (Ok, maybe he didn't actually say "free rein," but that's how I've decided to interpret it!)

lol, thanks for all the support and giggles. I'm glad I'm not the only one appalled by Celine Dion being on the playlist!!

That said, we just went to my sister's wedding with a fantastic DJ that played mostly 80s+90s dance music, and I think the FI got the hint about what was popular for dancing. Or at least I hope he did. Pray for me.

I'll keep you all posted! :)

PS: Spaceballs=awesome!

I have a feeling I'm going to end up usurping playlist rights, but fortunately it's not because my fiance wants to dance to Celine Dion. (Whew!) I don't think he did much dance-partying through school and so the music he might enjoy listening to, while generally pretty good, is not necessarily great for PARTYING -- which is really the main objective of the wedding reception. I logged into our DJ's playlist website where we can add songs earlier today and saw he had been in there and added a few partykillers. oof! :)

that said, it's something that will have to be dealt with with some degree of tact. After all, it is our wedding, not just mine. I definitely foresee some pop-culture compromises in the future.

LOL awesome. Celine Dion is terrible. And I liked ALL the star wars movies. Every single one+ Space Balls. Classic.

I don't think we have made any compromises yet in our wedding planning. fortunately we kinda want the same thing. OH WAIT. he doesn't want a dance. I kinda would be ok with a dance- but he doesn't dance. so no dance. and that's ok with me :)

Too funny. We made some compromises on the music for our wedding which didn't matter since your friend played whatever he wanted anyway :)

Oh he absolutely did NOT ask for Celine. Sorry...it was like when my guy told me his family was more of the "electric slide type". I threw up a little bit in my mouth.
I totally feel you on the bridezilla thing...it sucks. Take away the fact that it's for a wedding and I'd say the same thing about the electric slide. Sigh.

Wait wait. The BOY asked for CELINE DION. Priceless!

I'm sure DJ and I have made wedding compromises. I just can't think of any at the moment, it seems from here like we agreed on everything. That seems like a sign of a well-made compromise, right?
