Form Over Function

We had to change a small piece of the plan this week. A while ago DJ asked our caterer if she could put together an iced tea and lemonade table to have out before the ceremony. We were thinking that in September (even late September) you never know what you’ll get for weather, so a cold beverage might be nice. She’s fantastic, always quick on the yes. So, yes. We can have a table of drinks, and she’d be happy to coordinate the rentals.

This is what I was thinking:

(shoestring home)

Or possibly this:

iced tea and lemonade bar
(style me pretty)

But! This is the type of container available for rent:

Full bride stop. Oh no, I said to DJ. That will never do. I’m such a snob lately. But really, I wouldn’t want these for a party at my house either. Does that make it any better? Probably not. At any rate, we’re working on a new, less insulated plan.

we heart your comments!

julia! there are TONS of options, even if your caterer doesn’t have one for you. Ask them if it’d be OK for you to provide one. They’re not incredibly cheap, but totally available for $30-$60. When I worked for a catering company we ended up buying them for a bride, figured if we rented them twice we’d be fine, and they ended up lasting for well over a year and many events. You can have a beautiful drink station-just be wary of anything with seeds or too much pulp, it will clog up the valve :-) good luck!

We had a similar idea in mind and wound up using these – http://www.target.com/Heritage-Hill-Jar-Collection/dp/B000V5Q2WO/sr=1-19/qid=1250896148/ref=sr_1_19/184-4492873-1326348?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&field-browse=1038576&rh=k%3Aglass%20jar%2Cn%3A3151061&page=1 We were only able to get 2 large jars and 1 medium, but they were great! We had water with cucumber/lemon, limeade, and lemonade. It was a big hit! Our venue purchased the 2 large jars from us after the wedding because they loved them so much. :) We used punch bowl plastic servers we ordered off ebay and 7-11 cups (to go with our date, hehe.)

oh dear. tulle and flowers isn’t going to help those containers.
you can definitely find those at a someplace like Target for $40-$50, and then after you can probably sell them to another person who needs it for an event! my sister has one and brings it out every time we have a party, so they are definitely useful.

When I asked our venue what they used for water/tea I was almost certain they would show me those same containers (the last ones)…but they actually use some kinda cute kettle looking things! I still have my heart set on using similar glass jars as you envision so I’ve been looking around for some. I know some people that had them at their weddings and still use them today so it sounds like a worth while investment….or like Amanda said maybe your caterer will buy them from you afterwards…they seem to be quite popular for weddings these days!

Carolyn, good thinking about choosing non-pulpy beverages. Thanks for the tips, girls! Amanda, those jars are great – and inexpensive! I think you are all right about being able to unload or re-use them post-wedding. It’s really a matter of whether or not it’s worth the hassle to clean and re-sell them. I’m less and less willing to hassle with stuff as we get closer to the day. :)

Yeah, blue plastic probably isn’t what you are looking for…

I have two beverage servers from Neiman Marcus that I would be willing to sell you! When’s the wedding? They look just like your first pic!

Do you live anywhere near a costco? The one near me has big glass ones like the top picture of yours without the metal – and they’re $20!

Those target ones are darling too.

Then you could just have your caterer handle the rental of the glassware, and ice and all that other stuff.
