Do I Need More Hair?

After being unsuccessful at finding a hair and makeup person to return my emails, I luckily found Uyen Tran and had a fantastic trial! She spent three hours with me and I’m so happy with how the trial came out.

This was my inspiration:

Makeup Inspiration (pink lips and cheeks and lots of false lashes!)

And this is what she miraculously did with my hair and face…

[Yuck to Wow!]

As you can see, the “poof” of the bun is not as thick and poofy as the inspiration, but I am not sure if I should just leave it as it is.

What do you think–should we add some extensions to give my bun more poof? Did you have a successful hair and makeup trial?

we heart your comments!

Mo, you look beautiful!! No, I say go with what yo mamma gave ya (aside from the lashes, that is). If you had a big poufy dress, maybe, but I think your dress calls for hair that isn’t huge, ya know?

I think the hair looks great, but if you want more poof I’ve seen people put kind of a ball of mesh/fishnet type material where the bun should be and then wrap or pin the hair to/around it. You can’t tell that it isn’t all hair! Much cheaper and less time consuming than extensions.

Your makeup is stunning!

I was going to recommend the same thing that Amanda did. You can read a blog post about it (and see it in action) here:

Mo, you definitely don’t need more hair…your stylist just needs to tease it before putting it into the bun to give it more “Oomf!”. Check out my hair (it was the exact same style you’re going for); I did it myself and there’s a step-by-step guide here: http://www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/2009/04/26/a-diy-revelation-i-can-do-that/#more-9838

Wow- I didn’t even think it was the same person in before and after.. what a fabulous makeup/hair artist!

Thanks for all the comments! I’ll check out the ball of mesh and show it to my stylist on WB!

@Briana: Actually, I didn’t post it up here, but my hair was super duper teased. The two of us laughed because it looked like I was going to be an extra on Dallas. Needless to say, no pictures were taken of that, but she did indeed tease it to high heaven before putting it in the bun! PS: Still so impressed by your hair/makeup skills! I can barely curl my hair properly haha.

@Mary: Makeup does wonders!

I did my wedding hair very similar to yours and got extensions at Sally’s to beef up my bun. I think I paid $40 for a full box of 8 extensions. Totally worth it! No one could tell I had fake hair in at all.
I blogged pictures of my hair and even of the box of extensions over here:

Loving the hair dos!!!

I think your hair and makeup looks amazing. I love the bun and don’t think you need to add extensions. The makeup is gorgeous but not too much!!!

@juel: you make a good point. It is definitely going to be a more laid back wedding, perhaps the ‘do should stay more laid back. Ahh, decisions decisions!

@Kelly: Thanks for the tip! Your hair looked great and totally natural.

@April: I’m glad it doesn’t look like too much, because it felt like a lot since I only wear a little concealer in the morning and some eyeliner! Thanks for your input!

Hey Mo! I think you have two very different things going on. Your hair looked chic and modern to me, which I would love with your dress. Your inspiration bun looks more over the top and romantic, which is different but also a good look. If you want the puff, you’ll probably need a little extra something in there to make it bigger, like Amanda said. Oh, and the makeup looks fantastic. Very soft and pretty!

I think it looks just perfect!! Soft, romantic and natural. No need for extensions.

Mo, I loved your hair. Seriously - it evokes a lovely romantic vibe. Could it be bigger? Sure. But I think it matches the mood and your dress!

No I think your hair looks sweet . . . don’t add more poof!!

Thanks to everyone for your input! I think the last few comments from julia, TPB, CNC, and PDX have convinced me not to do anything to the hairdo and keep it as is. Thanks for helping with my decision ladies. What would I do without all of you?? :D
