This is my Dad. He’s pretty awesome. Recently at my sister’s New York City wedding, he wore this tie:
“Dad, where’d you get that tie?”
“Uncle gave it to me. Like it?? It’s the statue of liberty.”
“Yes…yes Dad, I can see that.” And then I proceeded to take his picture. His outfit (even though it was charmingly dorky) prompted my oldest sister to declare that we would pick out an outfit for him for my wedding, shoes included. I think he was wearing tennis shoes that night in New York.
Are you giving much fashion direction to your parents for your wedding, or are they just picking out their own outfits? Don’t you just hate that tie so much you love it?

Wow, that is an amazing tie – I’m tempted to show it to my dad, but probably won’t because then he will search it out and buy it for himself!
As for my parents and the wedding, oh man… my dad wants to wear his tux (even though the groomsmen are wearing sweaters and slacks… more on that later!) and my mom bought a pretty, but too casual red dress! Fortunately, my mom is continuing to look, but she has declared that she “won’t be wearing a prom dress” (whatever that means), so who knows… I’ve pretty much decided to just let it go. I know I have no control over what they wear and, I mean, they let me wear a tutu over my outfit for a year when I was 5, so I feel that I should just let them wear what they want to…
Good luck with your dad! :)
that tie is incredible. i’m shocked that it won’t make an appearance at your wedding. oh, if only my colors were navy and gold…
Your dad is adorable. Please send Daddy Mo to me immediately, tie and all.

You girls crack me up. :)
Yes, my Dad’s a hoot. He’s also amazingly laid back so if I just hand him something to wear he’ll probably say “ok” and then wear it.
@Natalie: You wore a tutu for an entire year?? If I was in your kindergarten class I probably would have been insanely jealous of you. I insisted on wearing a dress all the time, but I never ever had a tutu!

My dad wore shamrock boxers in honor of our Irish honeymoon. He showed them off at the reception. It was slightly embarassing but cute at the same time.

I’m going through this right now!! In our upcoming October wedding, the male portion of the wedding party is wearing navy suits. Yet my Dad keeps saying how he wants to wear his tux (b/c he never gets to wear it). Once I convinced him he couldn’t, he showed me his tie collection – it looks like it belonged to Bill Cosby :( I’ve decided I’ll be buying him a new tie for the big day. The rest is up to him.
As for my mom, she’s bought 3 dresses so far. One..just, no. Two, great color but looks like a bridesmaids dress…in fact, I think it IS a bridesmaids dress from JCrew. Three, cute but springy…Ugh. She’s extra difficult. I’m throwing my hands up at this point… She says she’s wearing number two with a sweater and a ribbon belt. Maybe it’ll turn out just fine…
