Alterations are all over the place. I had a heart attack and then learned to live with mine ($150 for the bustle), which I have since learned is not so bad. If you know anyone who was happy with their alterations, that's your best bet. It's not necessarily that you get what you pay for, just make sure they've done it well before!

Congrats on finding it!!
I was given an estimate of $150 for alterations from the shop I purchased it from, but my dress hasn't even come in yet, so we'll see what the price really is when I try it on!

Don't use the chain stores for modifications. They hemmed mine 2 inches too short & you can't grow back tulle. However, they were really cheap (about $185 for all alterations). But you get what you pay for. Find the best & make sure to get recommendations.

i paid ALOT for alterations, i bought a sample and trumpet shape so it needed very detailed alterations. all in it was $675. feel free to gasp (i did). the bustle was $15 a point - i had a 3 pt. french bustle. i had cups added in to the boob area, a crinoline added, the internal slip elongated, and more boning put into the bodice. the rest was just nips & tucks. oh yah, and i had a lace vest made into a lace jacket... that was about $190 of it. i'm just glad i had shoes that worked because a hem would have been $160 no matter if it was a quarter of an inch or two feet needed.
i ended up paying, between the dress and alterations, what most people pay... i just flipped it - spent less on the dress more on the fixing of it.
i highly recommend sticking with a bridal alterations shop if it's a delicate fabric or a fitted style... you don't want to risk it on this party dress
good luck!
