You Can Wear It Again

Does anyone ever really wear a bridesmaid dress again? {Crickets chirp}

I thought so. Please feel free to prove me wrong in the comments. :)

I hope that even if my sisters don’t wear their dresses again, that their photos don’t end up in a book like You Can Wear It Again by Meg Mateo Ilasco. (Despite how loud these dresses are, you really can’t deny that there’s something incredibly festive about them all! I think this book would make a great addition to a thank you gift for the maids.)

I {think} we have finally come to a compromise and chosen dresses to order! If you recall, I was on the hunt for green dresses and trying not to turn my sisters into props.

I recently fell in love with this dress and this dress but both got lukewarm reviews from the sisters. Some weeks went by, lots of Internet surfing happened, and then I saw this dress from Saja. Saja was the first place I had tried on wedding dresses, and is also where my sister almost bought her dress. So I already knew it might be a winner.

And {woohoo!!} it was! Both sisters have agreed to get the dresses from Saja, they just need to choose a silhouette of their liking. Both dresses will be in that gorgeous green and shoes will be left up to them.

I’m also super excited to have found this photo from Grace Bonny’s wedding in Martha Stewart. I just love how the flowers pop against the bright green dress!

The best part of this all is that my sisters like what they will be wearing. Even if they will never wear the dress again, I can be comforted by this fact.

Have you ever had to wear an indescribably ugly bridesmaid dress? Can you wear any of your dresses again?

we heart your comments!

versatility of the dress was one of my main choices when i went shopping for bmaid dresses w/ my bmaids. happy to say that they can all wear theirs again :)

hahaha… don’t you just LOVE that reassuring statement “you can wear it again!”. Yes, I have heard it twice, and most recently, it was NOT true… I would never wear my last bridesmaid dress again… NEVER! But, I can say that the bridesmaid dress I wore to my sister’s wedding was GORGEOU, and I have worn it many times since… also wearing it to a wedding this weekend! It looks like you have found some beautiful dresses that your girls will (hopefully) wear again!

Love, love, love the green dresses! My bridesmaids wore green dresses (and two out of four have worn theirs again already)! And, white flowers really do pop against the dress. I can’t wait to see them in the dress!

I’ve been in 4 weddings but only 1 of the dresses is rewearable. The bride let us pick any of the dresses from Ann Taylor’s collection in brown. It was a great bridesmaid dress, but has also been great to wear to other weddings and for a couple other events.

I love the feathers tucked into the bouquet.

Glad to know that people do in fact re-wear their dresses! I hope the dresses get more use after the wedding. If not I’m totally stealing one for my next party. :)

I’m on the hunt for dresses that my bridesmaids can actually wear again, too… I am too practical a person to have any desire for them to spend $150 on a dress to wear once and never have any use for again.
I love what you picked out, I don’t want to use bright colors, but they are beautiful & I’m checking out Saja’s website right now!

Love those dresses. Great choice. I’ve been in 8 weddings (I think..I’m losing track!) and the only dress I’ve worn again is the dress from a wedding where the bride told me I could wear whatever I want as long as it was black. I think most BM’s know they’ll never wear their dresses again, but if it’s FABULOUS and reasonably priced…wearing it again doesn’t matter!!!

I will be in two weddings next year and neither dresses I doubt I will ever wear again. One of my goals as a bride was to not make my BMs pay an insane amount of money for a dress they will wear only to my wedding. So, I have decided to have them wear black cocktail length dresses. Hopefully they will get some use out of them. Who doesn’t love a LBD??

I’ve had decent bridesmaid dresses. However, I wouldn’t wear the again because they look like bridesmaid dresses. I’m really proud of the fact that my girls chose their own dresses. My only regret is that I would have shopped at Ann Taylor or some large retailer because I spent a lot on their dresses (custom is not always cracked up).

I have actually worn one of my bridesmaid dresses 3x. It was a very simple and classic style so it was easy to re-wear. I have another that, although pretty, I’m afraid would look too much like a bridesmaid dress. I love the style of the green dress above, I think I’d like my bridesmaids to wear something like that!

I haven’t reworn a bridesmaid dress, but I have worn the same dress as the bridesmaids at a wedding! It was one of those Ann Taylor Celebrations dresses; brides beware of actually wearing those to weddings if you’re not in the wedding party! :)

@Clare Richardson: Oh dear–at least the bride was cool and didn’t do anything! You’ve clearly proven me wrong that bridesmaid dresses can be worn again. :)
When I was looking at more casual white dresses to wear for the wedding, I was afraid that someone would show up in the same dress. I guess that’s one reason why people advise against wearing white!

You know I took the lazy way out, having them choose their own - but for myself, I love being able to wear a really glam floor length gown as a bridesmaid that I will NEVER wear again. I hope that comes back in style before all my friends are married. I really like your Saja dresses, though. I think I would re-wear that as a fancy dinner dress, or at least really enjoy wearing it at the time.

Oo I love the styles Saja has! They’re so simple and feminine. Are they reasonably priced? *fingers crossed* :)

@Andrea: The bridal dresses, in comparison to other wedding dresses, are pretty reasonably priced—all of them are under 1k! You can see them here with their prices: http://www.sajawedding.com/collection_gowns.html.
Unfortunately the maids dresses are more pricey in comparison to other dresses you’ll find out there. The short styles are $295. My big sisters were willing to splurge.
Good luck finding your dress!
