Montreal Fall Wedding

Jenn and Mike’s Montreal wedding has so many special qualities… love, fun, and family history.  Jenn says:

Mike and I got married at Loyola Chapel, where my parents were married 30 years and two weeks ago to the day. The chapel was also located on the campus of Concordia University where I earned my journalism/sociology degree.

It was a typical fall day in the Montreal suburbs – a football game was going on across the street, the tree branches still clutched a few remaining leaves while the others, wet and littering the ground like a mosaic carpet, provided the perfect autumn backdrop I had dreamt about for my wedding day.

The talented photography duo of Davina + Daniel captured both stunning portraits and heartfelt moments.

Jenn and Mike’s wedding featured a green apple theme and baked apple spice favors.  Cinnamon, brown sugar, white sugar, and flour were measured and placed into clear cone-shaped bags, tied with a ribbon and recipe!

The reception featured five types of wine bottled by Jenn’s father, fresh green apple centerpieces, and vanilla cupcakes baked by a family friend.  Guests took home apples from the centerpieces for the spice mix, and the remainder were donated to a local food bank.

Jenn’s attention to detail is wonderful – I love how all of the elements of the event are tied together with her wedding logo, without it being overwhelming.

    Hey there,
I love your apples on the table for center pieces. I want to do this for my wedding in September. Can you tell me where you found the fruit bowls?

    Bridget from N.S.

    Hi Bridget,
Thanks- people ended up taking the apples at the end of the night to go with their baked apple spice favours! :) I actually rented the bowls from the same place I rented my dishes- they were $12/each, and a case of apples was about $32, so it’s a very inexpensive centerpiece idea. I’ve seen some people stick a few white flowers in-between the apples too- very pretty. :) Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Hi Jenn, I loved your apple-themed wedding. Great idea for the Fall. Could you send me your recipe for baked apple spice favours? They sound yummy and I love how they look in the cone shaped bags.

    Thanks!
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the compliments!! :) Here’s the recipe:

    Amish Baked Apples

8 to 10 apples, cored, peeled & halved
    3/4 c. white sugar
    3/4 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    2 tsp. butter, melted
    1 c. water

Place apples in greased 9 x 13 inch dish. Mix remaining ingredients together in ORDER given, in pan and bring to a boil. Simmer, stirring until thick. Pour syrup over apples and bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until tender.

Where did you find the cellophane cones big enough to hold 2 cups? I am in love with this idea, by the way. I have been wanting to do apple centerpieces (my colors are green apple and chocolate brown) and was wondering what the heck I was going to do with so many apples afterwards. This is perfect!!

    Hi Christyn,
My mom found them in a little store in her town of Embrun, ON… but I did some homework for you and found this site:
    http://www.wrdisplay.ca/catalog/cellophane-cone-bags.html
They have all different sizes (and were cheaper than what I paid!)
And it just happened that people took the apples- I hadn’t even planned for people to take them with their spice mix (in fact, I had a shelter lined up to take leftover food, which in the end, there was none!)

  8. Jen,
I love your wedding. Great ideas. I’m also a Concordia students and I was wondering how much is it to make a ceremony at the Concordia chapel? Where, was your reception hall?

    thank you,

  9. Hi Julia,
It was free! No charge! I obviously had to pay to bring a musician in (they have a beautiful organ) as well as pay for my minister, but the chapel was free! And then I had my reception at the Pierrefonds Cultural Centre- a bit of a hike from the chapel but TOTALLY worth it!
    Thanks for writing!!
