We are going to have 17 dozen Sprinkles Cupcakes. 4 black and white, 4 vanilla, 4 peanut butter chocolate, 3 red velvet, and 2 coconut, for a total of 204 cupcakes. I cannot wait! Now the problem is finding a way to display them.
I just bought two red cake stands from Target for $20 each (because of Valentine’s Day, our colors are everywhere!) and am continuing the research. I’m on a cake stand roll, so I thought I would share some of my finds for anyone looking for cake stand inspiration.

{Whitney Smith makes all of these cake stands in her ceramics studio in Oakland, CA. Check out all of her pieces, she is one talented artist! Bird cupcake stand, Whitney Smith, $38}

{Oooh la la! These beauties from Clara French Ceramique are gorgeous. Rental prices range from $45-$95, and prices start at $160 to purchase.}

{Hobnail milk green cake stands by L.E. Smith Glass Co. look so sweet, and also come in ice blue, pink, amber, and crystal, and start at $40.}

{This adorable scalloped stand by Etsy seller vessels and ware is customized for your wedding and comes in a variety of colors. $64}

{For the couple that doesn’t want to diy but is still on a budget: Wiltons, $20}
And of course, there is always DIY! Click here for a tutorial for a tiered tower made from cake boards at Cake Journal; click here or here for tutorials using recycled plates and glasses.
How are you displaying your dessert?

Just what I’ve been looking for… thank you!

Cake stands are hard to come by. I love the green stands you featured. The detail around the edges are great. William Sonoma seems to carry stands but they are close to $100 / stand, which is a bit outrageous if you want to buy several. I would even feel badly registering for that and asking someone to spend $100 on a stand. Any other ideas of where to buy reasonably priced stands?

@Sarah: I agree, cake stands get expensive! I have been looking at Amazon.com and ebay for cheaper cake stands. I just recently bought some plates and bowls I like at Anthropologie, and I just plan to turn the bowl upside down and put the plate on top, without the glue. That way I can still use the plates after.
I should also note that I was mistaken, my cake stands from Target were not $20, but $12! I would definitely check Target, or if you’re just looking for plain white stands, I would buy a plain white dish and a white bowl or cup and glue them together.
If you are looking for a cupcake tower and don’t feel like diy’ing, this site sells a cardboard version of the cupcake tower for $40: http://cupcaketree.com/
You also might want to try Flirt, which is pricier but still really cute!: http://www.potluckstudios.com/flirt.html
Good luck!

I am LOOKING all over the place for cake stands… my goal is to have a cake to feed six at each table… lol..which means 10 to 15 cake stands..YIKES ..lol… def feeling inspired to get back on the hunt

@Erlinda: I thought of that idea too because I think it really saves space and is also a great centerpiece. Unfortunately I was afraid people would be fighting over flavors! Good luck on your hunt, I just found this one for $24: http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/product.aspx?T=1&productId=634450
Also, I received an email from reader Baylee who suggested wooden boxes to give the cakes a lift! You can paint them different colors, this would work well for a rustic wedding.

I asked a close friend to design our cupcake display. She and her husband created the most incredible hanging cupcake holders. We received so many compliments, and the design really fit the unique feel that I wanted for the event. You can check out Vicki and Ray’s work here: http://www.cakeholeproject.com/
