UPDATE: Congratulations to our winner, Carleigh!
Cyd and I were so excited when Julianne Smith, a dear friend of mine, handmade a gorgeous peach and gray satin wedding garter for our Bridal Suite Inspiration Shoot. And lucky for all of us, not only did she create a gorgeous garter for the shoot at Lovely Bridal Shop, she created one especially for me to give to one of you!

i love how she said you can do the toss or not do the toss … anything you want to … afterall it is your wedding! such simple but sometimes hard to remember advice when trying to please everyone including yourself during the planning process! after seeing these, i’d for sure change my mind to “do!” i LOVE LOVE LOVE the feathers on the miss rosette! so unique!

I love the garter toss because it is such a fun tradition! I plan on tossing my bouquet and doing the garter toss at my wedding and I am so excited for it! I love Julianne’s idea about how to do a classy garter toss at a wedding. My worst fear was that it would be akward, but now I feel that I am better prepared and relaxed. I think her best advice was simply to keep your eye on your partner, this should be a fun moment between the two of us , so I shouldn’t worry about what other people think! And I love the garter that Julianne made, it matches my wedding colors so it would be perfect!

It’s such a silly and fun tradition. I like her advice that you don’t necessarily have to do the toss. Maybe we’ll just do it all alone later ;)

i love that it’s a fun tradition. at the last wedding we went to, no one wanted to catch it! litterally, all the guys jumped out of the way! it landed on the floor and after the groom’s mother yelled at her other son, did the other son pick it up! it made me a bit weary about doing it at my wedding. i have no idea what i would do if that happened to me. the advice given is so nice. i like the different twists you can add to make the tradition a little different.

I am definitely the “split decision couple”. My fiance is ALL for the garter toss – even wanting to play Hot for Teacher during the whole thing, while I would LOVE some simple garter photos w/ my KILLER teal shoes… There is still a lot to be decided, but her garters are BEYOND gorgeous!!!
I like the idea of having a garter, but not necessarily doing a garter toss! That was a great post. :) And her garters are absolutely beautiful!
I found the garter song section extremely helpful. My fiance has been trouble coming up with a song for this portion of the evening and I’m sure he’ll be able to find something now. Thanks!
WOW! There’s so much great information. I found the garter song section extremely helpful. My fiance and I have been going back and forth about this topic, and all your information about garters and the options that can be done, are of tremendous help. Thank you so much!
although I think of myself as a somewhat modern bride, the garter toss tradition is one I simply cannot do without. I absolutely love it! One thing I learned was when to actually do the garter toss. I’m working on my timeline now so this was really helpful!
I am sure that the catcher of my garter will use the have fun with it and lose it strategy that Garter Girl outlines. I just had my bridal shower, but didn’t get a garter. I would love to wear this one!
Wow – so much information on garters that I had no idea about! The garters are all beautiful – had to choose just one!
I learned that you CAN make the garter toss classy. The garter tossing songs she suggests are also helpful information. Her garters are gorgeous…so well made and delicate.

Loving the eco-friendly garters on the Garter Girl site!! One of my favourite parts about the garter toss is the silliness…there are so many serious moments, so many sensitive moments (all wonderful), but it’s cool to have one big silly moment for everyone to share together. I’ve been searching for a while now for something kind of vintage looking and maybe even my “something blue”! The history of the garter toss is funny…I’d love to see someone in modern times trying to take pieces of the bride’s dress!! hahaha…

I love the garter toss tradition, because it is just that, tradition! Even though some groan when the DJ says it’s time, everyone is smiling and laughing by the time it’s over. I have 3 more garter tosses to participate in before I’m married, and I feel it’s kind of a right of passage, cheesy as that may be! I couldn’t imagine not doing it at our wedding. I will say that I am glad the whole tearing off of clothes bit did not carry on though! WOW Haha
I understand it is the bride’s choice to do it or not do it, and I appreciated the 101 post about that. Like the last wedding I was in, my friend (the bride) had a garter but didn’t wear it or toss it. She just wanted to carry on the tradition by having one and made sure to take it with her for the honeymoon night – The funniest part was that it stayed in my fiance’s pocket the whole evening until the bride was ready to leave!
I love the Purple Goddess garter as it fits our wedding theme beautifully, it’s sweet & flirty at the same time, and with soft flowers and rich tones it’s one of the most unique and detailed that I’ve seen. Also, I hadn’t thought about wearing two garters before but after reading about the toss & keep garters I’m thinking I may do just that!
I’m really on the fence right now about having a garter toss at my wedding so I found these posts really informative. One of my big concerns had to do with the timing but after reading her article I think it makes a lot of sense to do everything at once. (I, like some previous posts, am pretty worried about doing it and not having anyone around to try to catch it!) I also liked the idea of having a “toss” garter and am glad to know that you can get yours back (I was feeling a little selfish for not wanting to give mine up! heehee).
I think all of her pieces are really beautiful but I LOVE her couture garters- they are so fun and playful while being completely sexy. I especially like the “french maid” and “intimate lingerie” ones. Those would be perfect for the private “garter toss” I envision with my soon-to-be-hubby. :)
The garter toss has been a back-and-forth discussion with us, but I really like the idea of the 2 garter method, so I can still keep one :) I think Julianne’s garters are gorgeous because they can be customized to fit the bride’s style (no itchy lace or cheesy color combos) and that she has a line of ec0-friendly ones, yay!

I love the wedding garter toss because it’s traditional and sweet–it doesn’t have to be trashy! Her garters are so pretty!
I love the song lists that were compiled by Evan at MyDeejay. Jason and I want to do a tasteful garter toss, and we know the song can either make or break the mood. I can’t wait to listen to these suggestions and find what is right for us!
