Derby Inspiration

The Kentucky Derby is only a few days away and although the event has absolutely nothing to do with weddings, I’m incredibly inspired by its details. Three in particular really stand out to me: the trophy, red roses, and the bourbon!

How fantastic are these trophies filled with flowers? Depending on the type of trophy used, whether vintage, polished, or modern, the look can translate into many different weddings:

The red rose is the official flower of the Kentucky Derby. The winning horse is draped with a garland of over 400 red roses and the jockey gets a bouquet of them as well!

And of course there’s the drink. The Mint Julep is THE drink of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs, the most important ingredient is the bourbon! Yeah, yeah, or mint…but you can’t really do a mint-tasting bar at your wedding could you? A bourbon-tasting bar sounds much better, don’t you think?

What do you think about using The Kentucky Derby as inspiration for your wedding? Will you be watching or attending this year?
