Create Your Own Thanksgiving Tablescape

If you’re searching for seasonal inspiration for your Thanksgiving tablescape, look no further–Holly Heider Chapple has designed the most gorgeous, organic spread and given you the steps to recreate it at home! “My intent when I created this design was to come up with a concept that a beginner could do,” as well as use flowers that are readily available at grocery stores, Holly says. She’s definitely succeeded with this simple how-to! Follow along with this beautiful images from Genevieve Leiper Photography, and let us know how your own Turkey Day tablescapes turn out!

Step 1: Gather scissors, greening picks (or wooden skewers), tape and oasis.

Step 2: Collect one large pumpkin, several miniature pumpkins and gourds, bud vases and old vintage vases. These bud vases are from Michael’s, while the vintage containers (pictured below) were scored at On A Whim Antiques.

Step 3: Buy your blooms and foliage. Holly suggests Chinese lanterns, bittersweet branches, mums, spray roses and Alstroemeria in autumnal colors of orange, yellow and red. You can also collect branches, bush clippings or leaves from your neighborhood or yard to use as filler.

Step 4: Fill each vase and container with a simple mix of flowers. Insider secret: If you start the design with greens, the piece will be full from the start and require fewer flowers! Make sure each vase is a little different, as this will add interest to your overall tablescape. Set aside when finished.

Step 5: Pierce a small piece of oasis with the pumpkin’s stem–this will keep the oasis in place! If your pumpkin does not have a step, simply tape the oasis to the top of the pumpkin. Once your oasis is in place, add greens to the bottom of the oasis, placing them so that they cascade down the side of the pumpkin.

Step 6: Now start adding flowers! If you want to add a miniature pumpkin or gourd to the arrangement, pierce the smaller element with one end of a pick or skewer. Then, insert the other end of the stick into the large pumpkin. (Holly adds that you can substitute fruits, such as apples and pears, for pumpkins and gourds to add a different look to your arrangement!) Keep adding greens, flowers and other autumnal elements until no oasis is showing.

Step 7: Place your finished pumpkin arrangement in the center of your table.  Next, add the smaller arrangements to either side of the pumpkin, until you have achieved the desired fullness. You can also garnish the table with extra blooms and foliage!
