Elegant Styled Anniversary Session

It’s been a year since Christian and Susie wed, and on a rainy Utah afternoon they gathered together with Mariel Hannah for a romantic anniversary shoot, creating beautiful memories to celebrate their first year together. Flower Afternoon created perfectly styled blooms for this magical set of images–we are swooning over the lush marigold, pale coral, crimson, and green bouquet. Kali Chris styled Susie with the most lovely sideswept updo and soft makeup. We’re so in love with the love these two share as captured by Mariel Hannah!

How did you meet?

We met when my husbands friend started giving my roommate and I rides to campus. I had a huge crush on him but it didn’t help that a couple of his friends were actively pursuing me. After a few months of just being friends, he finally made the first move.

When did you know he/she was the “one”?

We took a road trip to Oregon with some friends to see a Sigur Ros concert. It was a long 12 hours in the car and I was shocked he still liked me afterwards because I tend to get cranky on long car rides. We stayed at a cabin and it was the first time we were together every minute of every day. Instead of getting sick of each other, we both realized that we couldn’t stand the idea of being apart from the other.

Tell us about your wedding:

Our wedding was very low key. We had a morning ceremony, and then had the whole day to relax before the reception. The reception was at my aunt’s backyard in Midway, Utah. She has a beautiful yard and it was the perfect setting for a summer wedding. We kept the decorations to a minimum and let the backdrop of the mountains speak for themselves! The two things we were insistent on having were the photo booth and Dippin’ Dots for catering! We wanted our celebration to be laid back and fun for our guests.

As you look back on your wedding is there anything you would have done differently?

I would have relinquished some control and not have worried about all the little details! Everyone seems to say that and it’s true! We were so wrapped up in the love we had for each other that we hardly noticed how the tables were set up or what music the DJ played. I could have saved myself from a lot of unnecessary pre-wedding stress!

What has been your favorite experience during the first year of marriage?

Becoming our own little family! It has been so fun to live together and day dream about our future home, children and even pets. It’s best feeling to come home from work and know that someone will be waiting to greet me with a hug and a kiss. Really just everything about marriage is great, even with its ups and downs.
