1930s Opulence: My Wedding Album

Welcome to the EAD Weddings blog! We are so excited to have you here. If you are a new visitor, we'd love for you to subscribe to our RSS feed and visit our sister site, EAD Living. Thanks for visiting and we hope you come back soon!

It’s been a real joy to be able to tell you about my experiences of planning our wedding. As a wedding planner the pressure was on from day one to produce a spectacular day (!) but I think we did an amazing job and couldn’t have done it without our friends and family behind us.

I thought I would leave you with a juicy selection of my favourite shots from our day. It’s been almost two months since we got married and it still feels so fresh. I feel really emotional pouring over these photos-hope you enjoy them…

This was taken just before the bridesmaids left the hotel for Pembroke Lodge. Nervous wasn’t the word!

Preparations

I can’t TELL you how nervous I was on the morning of our wedding. It was a whirlwind and time passed way too quickly. I wish I’d spent more time with my bridesmaids and my mum who were excitedly busying themselves, shoving the camera in my face from time to time (which I hated!) so it was wonderful to see the shots our wonderful photographer Matt Faber took. He really captured those moments I missed, for example when I gave the girls their beautiful necklaces-each one carefully sourced from Etsy of course!

Feuds and Fighting!

“What??” I hear you cry “you mean planning your wedding caused you problems?? How can that be?!”

I’m going to be totally honest. Planning our wedding wasn’t the most wonderful process. It was stressful, we argued constantly, fell out with family-you name it, it happened. Unless you’re in a situation where you have a massive budget and a wedding planner to take care of everything, it just won’t always be a bed of roses. You’re going to disagree on a lot of things and suddenly the issue of money becomes a really touchy subject.

From the moment we tried to set a date, I’d managed to upset my mother. Initially we wanted a June wedding so that our honeymoon wouldn’t cost a fortune at peak time in summer. However, as mum is a teacher, she has six weeks off from the end of July through August and she felt this would be a better time. To an extent it would be, but for us we would be fronting more money just to marry during summer (it gets very expensive in the UK). She wouldn’t talk to me for a week and refused to listen to my reasoning…and so we ended up booking for August.

Wallpaper Place Cards

As promised, here’s how to make my beautiful wallpaper place cards! Each card has the menu typed onto a mounted piece of cream card on the back so each guest knows exactly what they’re eating-thus avoiding any pre-order confusion. Our guests loved these so much that they took them home as a keepsake.

You Will Need:

1. Some beautiful swatches of vintage paper-you can use modern or original and I bought mine from Sweet Kate at Etsy and asked her to put together packs which only had floral designs in (see below).

Guest Appeal

When you first get engaged, logistically you assume that the wedding is all about you. However in reality, once you’re a little further into your planning, you discover it’s 60/40 all about your guests and the further we got into our planning, the more we realised! Suddenly you’re worried about them being hungry, bored, overwhelmed-you name it.

In hindsight, there really weren’t any major problems for us and our guests had the most wonderful day (we’re still hearing about it now) but at the time it seemed all we did was worry about everyone being happy.

Gorgeous Stationery: Unit i Press

I started out with the best intentions to make our stationery and make my fiancé proud to see I was being a well behaved budget bride. To continue along our vintage theme, I was going to make postcard sized invitations with separate RSVPs and info cards, each with original 1940s wallpaper on the back. I got as far as purchasing the wallpaper at least!

Unfortunately, in my line of work, I get to see the most beautiful, inspiring and expensive stationery from my suppliers on a regular basis so sometimes my judgement is clouded-what can I say? I’m a girl who likes to spend money!!

‘Hello Lucky’ are a real favourite of mine to recommend to brides as letterpress is one of the oldest methods of print and therefore add a real vintage touch. I met Ian from the UK branch of ‘Hello Lucky’ at the Designer Wedding Show last February whilst networking and he sent me a wonderful box full of exquisite samples. Of course, on our budget we could never afford them, so I set to work on Etsy to see if I could find someone who could make them for me for a little less.

How I got my Vera Wang

Almost the second we got engaged I was dragging my newly appointed chief bridesmaid down the Fulham Road in London to the Wedding Shop. I’d seen the most beautiful Vera Wang empire line design in tulle and had to see it for myself. As a university student, I knew there was no way I could ever afford one…but they weren’t to know that were they?!

The Wedding Shop is one of the only stockists of Vera Wang in London apart from Selfridges so we were both rather nervous about going in just to play dress up, but what a wonderful game of dress up it was! Over the course of an hour (it didn’t take long) I tried on a number of incredible gowns, from the tulle empire line I had my heart set on in the magazines, to the dress I fell head over heels in love with, relegating the other back to the rail. This crepe backed satin number was a bias cut 1930s style with sequin appliquéd shoulders, ties around the back and a liquid train-real Hollywood star quality.

A Very Vintage Wedding

It’s a real pleasure to be guesting for Rebekah and Ami this week. I’m a UK based wedding planner who writes her own blog about vintage weddings, but having recently been married I wanted to share my experiences with US brides and so I contacted Elizabeth Anne Designs. I hope I don’t disappoint!

We had an intimate budget wedding in August at a beautiful Georgian mansion called Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park on the outskirts of London.
