Real Weddings: Lori + Jonathan

Welcome to the EAD Weddings blog! We are so excited to have you here. If you are a new visitor, we'd love for you to subscribe to our RSS feed and visit our sister site, EAD Living. Thanks for visiting and we hope you come back soon!

Everything about Lori and Jonathan’s wedding is pretty much perfect. We have puppies with handmade ribbon collars and leashes, the most beautiful DIY flowers, a light and fun color palette of yellow and gray, and an Austin, TX wedding venue that is so unique and different. And on top of that, Heather from Eclectic Images outdid herself with spectacular photography, capturing every little detail and special moment!

Lori’s gals were decked out in gray bridesmaids dresses by J Crew and wore yellow shoes of their choosing and yellow flowers in their hair.

Not to be outdone, Jonathan and his groomsmen are dapper in their Chuck Taylors and the couple’s three pups sported yellow ribbon collars and leashes.  Aren’t they precious?!

Real Weddings: Jennifer + Travis

Travis and Jennifer’s wedding was full of fabulous details and was made even more wonderful by the amazing photos from Katie Stoops of Open Air Photography.

Cowboy boots for the bride + a fluffy sunflower bouquet = perfection.

The Marriott Ranch was the perfect venue for the couple’s casual farm wedding.  It’s nestled in tiny Hume, VA (about an hours drive from Washington DC) at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Le sigh - look how beautiful it is!

Fashion & Color Trends Summer 2010

Every year my mom sends me this and I think it’s neat to see which colors are predicted to be the trends for that season. It starts out talking the color trends for Summer 2010:

“Wide-ranging agreement at the latest biannual color meeting organized by Eurovet: stylists and industrialists agreed that the market demands color. Stars of the season: the greens. Guests of honor: nuances of red and soft and refined pinks, mauves and neutrals in full evolution. And essential are bright – almost neon – accents targeted at beachwear which is ever-more influenced by the street and clubbing. Last but not least, white (color 26!) and indigo blue remain very much in focus. ”

And on the topic of fashion:

“The background and shapes: the Capri spirit of the Fifties, haute couture precision, the desire of a perfect, radiant elegance… Motifs and prints are rich, lines emphasize the contour and strike the right balance, details and finishings are perfect. Nothing is left to chance, nothing is vague: everything is well conceived, neat, pretty, ravishing, harmonious, graceful.

“The most demanding design direction with its apparently contradictory, subtle mixtures of authenticity and the new modernity. The desire for durable luxury with genuine lingerie fabrics but now in the revolutionary lightweight fibers. Collections combine perfect performance, generous volumes, details which project natural eccentricity, hand made and artisan effects, as if aged by time…”

So Inspired

I have a love/hate relationship with inspiration boards.  I LOVE to look at them….but I somewhat “dislike” making them…am I the only one?  Maybe it’s because I’m so critical of my own work that I never seem to be happy with the balance of the boards that I make…but the ones I’ve seen around the blog world…absolutely inspiring.

Well shortly after booking the venue (we’re talking hours here) I decided to just get on with it and make my own…knowing the venue along with the look and feel I was after.

(Oh did I mention our colors yet?!?…yeah ok well there’s a quiz at the end…see if you can figure them out on your own ;) )

OK my first go:

Glamorous Gray

I am in love with gray.  It is perhaps my favorite color to work with because it can be used with absolutely every color.  I’ve done a brown and gray board before and although the color scheme is similar in this board, the feeling is completely different.  Adding in just the slightest tinge of a mauve-y purple gives this board a completely glamorous and elegant feel.

Perfection for a winter wedding, oui?

Pink and Gray Inspiration Board

Hey everyone! It’s finals week for me here in my MBA program, and with all that studying, I needed a little rest for the eyes… so I created an inspiration board for Bea, who requested a board based on shades of pink and gray.

I also thought these would be adorable cake toppers from cottonbirddesigns‘ Etsy Shop… very fitting with the vintage, rustic feel!

A Vintage Peach Board

Inspired by the dress from yesterday’s post, I give you a full on 70’s vintage board.

Think peach, chiffon, floaty layers, sashes, fabric roses, arm bouquets with trailing vines, three piece suits, bridesmaids with fans or wrist corsages, orange blossom invitations.

The Inspiration

So we have this blank canvas of a wedding sitting before us. Where do you start? Throughout college I had often said that I wanted to become a wedding coordinator someday. I adored weddings, this one day with all of your friends and family together celebrating. I had the Monica-from-Friends binder of every wedding idea I had ever come across. I’m a little wedding-obsessed. But once it was actually time to start planning I was a little lost.

I found two images in the first few wedding magazines I picked up (since being engaged, never mind that shelf of them in the back of my closet) that kicked everything off.

Mountain Chapel

Instead of the traditional church wedding and reception, many brides choose a chapel in the mountains as their wedding venue. Two friends married several years ago in a chapel built around a huge boulder. The guests rented several cabins in the area and spent a weekend celebrating. Inspired by that, I give you a simple mountain wedding, simply southern.

Pick up some Sweetwater Blue and head to your favorite chapel in Alabama!

Shades of Red with Pink and Silver

Reader Linh writes in to say:

My dress is an ivory strapless dress with a gold sash, and the bridesmaids dresses are floor length charcoal gray. I have been trying to do up inspiration boards for the 3 color combinations but I don’t get a sense of cohesion. I’d like to incorporate burgundy (but am afraid it may be too dark for our venue). Then I thought maybe gray & pink, but fiancé not a fan of a “Pink” wedding. Is it possible to do gray/silver with various shades of pink (blush to fuschia/magenta to burgundy), and some accents of gold, or is that too clashy???

Well Linh, YES!  It is.  Here’s how I see it:

Pale Yellow, Slate Gray, and Ivory

Caroline is planning a Labor Day wedding using pale yellow, slate gray and ivory. This is such a beautiful combination, and so easy to work with.
