DIY

The weeks leading up to your wedding are impossibly busy.  I was pretty organized throughout the process but between designing our programs, creating menu cards and printing escort cards, free time was hard to come by the last few weeks.  Oh and don’t forget about making sure all gifts were purchased and cards written.  And that there was a detailed timeline of the day.  Or, if you’re us, a detailed timeline of the 5-day event starting Wednesday.   Regardless, doing these projects myself made our wedding a labor of love and I enjoyed pouring myself into every last detail.

I always knew I wanted a Blurb guestbook.  My main goal was to create something that Matt and I would want to keep, not just a pretty book with the signatures of our loved ones.  So I pulled out that box that most of us gals have - you know, the box filled with ticket stubs, receipts and cards that you aren’t sure what you’ll do with but one day -  yep, that’s the one.  I uploaded all of our personal memories into Blurb and voila - our guestbook!

I’m in love with my guestbook

It’s a little nerdy, but true nonetheless.  I’m completely obsessed with what we’re doing for the guestbook at our wedding: a DIY-ish photobooth.  It was one of the first ideas I saw out there in the wedding blog world and instantly knew it had to be part of my wedding.  My mom is making runners for tables at the reception (she’s pretty amazing), so we’re going to use some of that fabric to create a back drop and set up a digital camera with a remote so our guests can snap pictures of themselves.  We’ll put the pictures in a book (and not just any book, mind you, a handmade one from the fabulous Maggie of Campbell Raw Press) with signatures/notes from each guest.  We were able to customize the book to be exactly what we wanted - I can’t wait to see the final product! Here are a few pictures of what our book will look like:

Check In, Check Out

I don’t know what to think about the guest book, as a concept. I’m a very visual person (have to see it, have to touch it) so I like things in writing, books, pictures, stuff. A guest book with pictures seems like the perfect place to write something nice - and bonus, it’s there to read later. But it’s also a lot of pressure, as a guest, to come up with the perfect thing to say after you’ve already exhausted yourself on the card.

So while I love the stuff aspect of our photo guestbook, I have to admit that I don’t think our guests will care so much. For them it’s the last trial before the bar.

Still, I am in love with the stuff, story of my closets. Silver tray from my grandma, picture frame from Kim, thrifted crystal frippery, Blurb book of engagement pictures (still needing library pockets), and library checkout cards for notes.

Do you feel differently about the guestbook as a guest than as a bride? Did you do anything to make it more interesting for your guests?

DIY Wedding Details: Quilt Guest Book

I heart unique guest book ideas, and a handmade quilt made from squares of fabric your guests sign at the wedding totally fits the bill!

Reception Details

Once I got into the DIY groove from the wedding stationery there was no stopping it. Creating the stationery was so easy that I thought I could add my own DIY touches to the rest of the wedding details.

Instead of having a traditional guest book, I decided to have a photo mat with one of our engagement pictures for our guests to sign.

I also created a fun way for our guests to share their wishes, thoughts, and funny stories We called it “Make a Wish, Take a Wish.” I bought two glass containers from Hobby Lobby. I filled each container with the left over shred from the out of town boxes and tied a bow on the outside of each container using the same ribbon from our invitations. I then created two signs using the same process I have previously mentioned: “Make a Wish” and “Take a Wish”.

Innovative Guest Book Ideas

I’ve been trying and trying to find something that works with my event to use as a guest book.  No luck yet but here are some amazing ideas I have seen along the way!

Typewriters

So fun for a literary couple or someone looking for that perfect vintage/mod combination.  Love the idea of this - not so sure if I’d trust my guests not to mess up?
