Rustic Garden Wedding
Welcome to the EAD Weddings blog! We are so excited to have you here. If you are a new visitor, we'd love for you to subscribe to our RSS feed and visit our sister site, EAD Living. Thanks for visiting and we hope you come back soon!
Garden weddings are so very of-the-moment. Infuse nature’s color palette with shades of pinks and purples and you have a romantic and timeless event.

Real Weddings: Amanda + Matt
You may remember Amanda and Matt from their San Francisco engagement session blog post a few months ago. Steve Koo captured those amazing images and also photographed their beautiful wedding at the Kenilworth Club in Chicago.
Amanda’s Amy Kuschel gown is just to-die-for (it’s officially my new favorite wedding gown ever) and a vibrant orange and purple bouquet completes her look.

Dressing the Ladies: We Have a Winner!
Alright…we had the beautiful plum v-neck dresses from Nordstrom that didn’t make the cut… and then came the super cute purple and violet dresses from Amanda Archer that won my heart at first sight.
But then…then came Jcrew.

pic from Jcrew via Green Wedding Shoes
Tried and true, gorgeous and simple…BM dresses from Jcrew. I remember when I first ran across the Spring 2009 line (yes way back in February 09) I fell in love…IN LOVE!… with the halter dress in the above image! So stinkin’ cute no?! I remember thinking 2 things… it is way too early to be looking at BM dresses…and oh wait…the price…yeah not so in love with that. I realize Jcrew dresses are pretty darn reasonable but I know my ladies and I really didn’t want them to break the bank just to look fab at my wedding. So…I just sorta “forgot” about this cute number.

Real Weddings: Chris + Heather
Chris and Heather’s Ojai mountain wedding has it all. Stunning scenery, perfect weather, fabulous decor, and to top all of that off, unbelievable photography by Mark Brooke.
The couple chose the tranquil tuscan villa and gardens of Belle Loreve for their venue.
The wedding ceremony took place in the upper garden with the backdrop of the Ojai mountains.

Real Weddings: Chelsea + Gabe
Chelsea and Gabe were married at a private residence in beautiful Deer Creek Canyon, CO. I adore the photography by a.h.p and their photographic style is perfect for the unbelievable scenery!
The couple chose to do a first look - that is always one of my favorite moments.

Real Weddings: Diana + Jacob
I always get so excited to see an email from Meg Perotti in my inbox! Meg’s work is just outstanding, and her couples are always so inventive and fun. Diana and Jacob are no exception to this, as they had a gorgeous wedding at a private home (previously owned by Mr. Warner himself) in Hollywood, which they coordinated on their own and pulled off on a limited budget using lots of friends, family, and ingenuity!
Diana is absolutely radient in her Vera Wang gown, rented from One Night Affair (what a fabulous idea!).
Jacob is a cross genre cellist and plays jazz, rock and classical music, so music played a huge part in their event. During the ceremony, a guitar-playing friend wrote a song for Diana’s walk down the aisle, and a string quartet (also friends of Jacob’s) played as well.

Dressing up the ladies: the search begins
I realize I have yet to tell the story of my own dress-finding adventure…but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer because right now I’m ALL about making my ladies look fabulous!
Finding the bridesmaid dresses was not exactly something I was looking forward too. That’s not to say I don’t LIKE BM dresses…I just have never been a BM myself and have no idea what it is like on that end! The whole act of forcing my friends to spend their hard earned $$ on a dress they might hate and in a color they would never otherwise wear just didn’t sound fun to me. Thus I avoided searching for BM dresses like the plague.
Sure I had some “ideas” if you will…I envisioned cute purple dresses on each of my girls carrying bright green flowers…smiling and dancing the night away all the while telling me how FABULOUS their dress is and how they CAN’T WAIT to wear it again and again and again…. ok so maybe my “ideas” were more like bride-fantasies.
Anyways…one of my go-to BMs assured me that it is up to me ultimately…and I should pick something I like. I agreed and thought…actually yes there is one dress in particular that I keep seeing and really really like…

It is cute…affordable…the perfect deep purple color I was hoping for…oh and has been all over the wedding world…

Real Weddings: Crista + Bill
I have been so busy with wedding season that I have fallen behind a bit on sharing lovely weddings with all the fabulous EAD readers. But I am so happy to be able to share a truly stunning and inspirational wedding from Labor Day weekend with all of you.
Crista and Bill were married at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) here in Chicago. I was so excited about this wedding, as it was one of the last before a wonderful exhibit by Olaffur Eliasson was taken down (if he ever exhibits in your city, please go!). This was my favourite exhibit I’ve seen in a long while, and I couldn’t wait to shoot in such a colourful and inspiring environment.
Bill and Crista are both creatives, and Crista did a beautiful job pulling together a gorgeous event that felt relaxed and artistic. It was also an incredibly emotional day, with Crista and her sister crying throughout the day–it was really lovely and sweet, and I was so happy to be able to share in the day along with my second photographer, Frank. Also, a big thanks to the amazing team at Kehoe Designs for designing the stunning florals that perfectly played off the rainbow of colours in the exhibit, while not being overkill. Really wonderful job; highly recommend them for very creative and unique displays and bouquets (we were all swooning over the succulents)!

Real Wedding Inspiration: Lilacs
Even though my wedding was more than a year ago, I still hear from brides every now and then who were inspired by one element or another from my wedding – and it absolutely warms my heart to know that my wedding played even a teensy tiny part in helping to inspire a fellow bride.
So when I heard from Heather, who was inspired by the lilacs that I used in my bouquet, I couldn’t wait to see how she put her own spin on things for her wedding. Heather was kind enough to send over some photos – courtesy of Lindsey and April from Sweet Monday Photography – from her wedding:
{Heather’s gorgeous bouquet was made up entirely of purple lilacs}
{the floral centerpieces for the reception were also made using lilacs}

Real Weddings: Sean + Jessica
Sean and Jess were married two weeks ago in Madison, where they had what was both a very fun and very emotional wedding in their home state. With a ceremony in downtown Madison and a reception on the shore of Lake Monona, it was a lovely celebration that I was honored to be a part of. I spoke to Sean and Jessica on the phone a few times before booking, and we always had such great rapport-Sean and Jessica are both fun, kind and have a great, sarcastic sense of humour, traits that I personally saw for the first time back in March when I shot their engagement session in Brooklyn, their home base now.
Thank you again for choosing me to share in your day, and to be allowed to experience two new cities as a result of being your photographer (somehow had never been to Madison or NYC before this year!). Hope you love the photos! Thanks also to Luis Bueno for driving up to Madison with me, doing a great job shooting groom’s prep and details.
Ceremony - St. Patrick’s Church
Reception - University of Wisconsin, Memorial Union

So Inspired
I have a love/hate relationship with inspiration boards. I LOVE to look at them….but I somewhat “dislike” making them…am I the only one? Maybe it’s because I’m so critical of my own work that I never seem to be happy with the balance of the boards that I make…but the ones I’ve seen around the blog world…absolutely inspiring.
Well shortly after booking the venue (we’re talking hours here) I decided to just get on with it and make my own…knowing the venue along with the look and feel I was after.
(Oh did I mention our colors yet?!?…yeah ok well there’s a quiz at the end…see if you can figure them out on your own ;) )
OK my first go:

Glamorous Gray
I am in love with gray. It is perhaps my favorite color to work with because it can be used with absolutely every color. I’ve done a brown and gray board before and although the color scheme is similar in this board, the feeling is completely different. Adding in just the slightest tinge of a mauve-y purple gives this board a completely glamorous and elegant feel.
