Real Weddings: Mike + Erika

Welcome to the EAD Weddings blog! We are so excited to have you here. If you are a new visitor, we'd love for you to subscribe to our RSS feed and visit our sister site, EAD Living. Thanks for visiting and we hope you come back soon!

Mike and Erika’s San Juan Capistrano wedding, much like Erika’s bridal shower, is all about classic romance and lots of pink!  Sandra Pan of Sandra P Photography did such a wonderful job capturing all of the details.

Rancho Capistrano is such a gorgeous venue, and Flower Allie’s work is always top-notch.  Soft pink chiffon Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dresses are highlighted by fluffy pink and white bouquets.

Time Lapse Cartography

In November EAD held a DIY contest, and E. encouraged me to enter my invitations, still in progress. Oh sure, I said, If I finish them soon! E., I totally did not finish them soon. Ladies- (And gentlemen? If you include DJ and one brother) I finished printing the maps on July 17, the night before we mailed them. Expert procrastinator. Hey E., can I enter now??

They’re a hot Gocco’ed mess of not-a-graphic-designer, but I’m pretty happy with how they came out. I had a fabulous time making them and they have all the pertinent information, so… success!

Reader Dilemma: Suggestions For a Color Scheme

Michelle writes in to ask for some input and ideas for her amazing color scheme:

I am thinking of having a platinum/pewter gray and blush pink wedding….pearls, lace, peonies and ostrich feathers (probably white or cream feathers).  Any suggestions?

Here’s one of our inspiration boards in the color scheme to inspire you.  Come on girls, go for it!

Real Weddings: Megan + Niall 12.31.08

Yes, I’m biased, but I love New Years Eve weddings!  There is something so special to me about ringing in the new year with your friends and family - marking the beginning of a new passing of time.  And in this case, the beginning of a life together!

Megan and Niall were married in Saratoga Springs, NY and two of our favorite people, Luke Walker and Alisha Clark, were there to capture the event!  Megan stopped by to chat with us about her beautiful and romantic wedding.

Megan is resplendent in her Monique Lhullier gown.  The beautiful silver beading echoed the wintry theme of her event, both in the decor and in the weather!

Megan says:

New Years Eve proved to provide some very special challenges - I woke up at 7AM to blizzard conditions outside my window!!  We were hit with a whiteout snowstorm the morning of the wedding.  The snow lasted well into our cocktail hour that night.  It was beautiful, but to say it was stressful is an understatement. My bridesmaids practically went off the road trying to get to my house, my band almost didn’t make it, the flowers were all starting to freeze in the bitter cold temperatures, one of our readers for the ceremony got stuck on the highway in the snow…. it was all pretty hilarious. I just put on Hunter wellies underneath my dress, tried to focus on the positives, and just kept going forward.  I had so much going on and I was so happy that I couldn’t really focus on the fact that we were getting hit with almost a foot of snow (which, interestingly enough, had NOT been predicted by the weather forecasters - they all said four inches at the most!).

Megan and Niall’s wedding was all about white, green, and silver, as you can see in her gorgeous Manolo Blahnik shoes and beautiful white bouquet designed by Ambiance Floral Designs.

The ceremony was held at the Historic Saint Mary’s Church in Albany.  These next two shots, of Megan and Niall during their ceremony, are just wonderful.  You can tell by the light in their eyes how happy they are to be marrying!  Alisha also captured a wonderful shot of the couple in their limo on the way to the reception — so thrilled to have tied the knot!

The reception, held at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs, was full of green, white, and wintry details.  The columns of the room are so dramatic that decor is largely unnecessary - it’s simply a stunning room.

The centerpieces featured beautiful bare branches, silver accents, and hanging votives.  And I adore the silver pintuck linens - a perfect complement to the decor!

Navy, Green, and Metallic New Years Wedding

Reader Megan writes in to say:

I am planning a wedding for this New Years Eve.  I’m trying to find ways to be inspired and I would LOVE to see what you might come up with for the color scheme I’m using - I’m using silver, whites and an apple green.  I’m going for a classic look, very festive but at the same time classically sophisticated.  Because it’s a New Years Eve wedding I’m hoping it will be on a grand scale - I’m marrying at a large ballroom with very high ceilings in Saratoga Springs, NY.  I’m using branch centerpieces with hanging votives, and lush florals at the base, and my dress is by Monique Lhuillier - a satin gown with a trumpet shape and silver french knotting on the bodice.  If you could provide any inspiration or even an inspiration board from these ideas, that would be wonderful!  Thank you in advance!

Megan I’m loving your color scheme!  Since your bridesmaids gowns are navy and your ballroom is gold, I added in some hints of both of those to your holiday affair:

Megan, the blue and gold may be a bit heavy for your taste but I love the warmth it brings and mixing silver and gold on a holiday is always a great idea!  I also love the idea of incorporating clocks for your NYE event - perhaps your gifts for your groomsmen are pocket watches and your guest book table arrangement includes some clocks too!

I have a dream of a bride walking the aisle in the top left dress. Wouldn’t it be perfect?!

I also love this CeCi invite in the same colors….

I think I am in love!

Real Weddings: Jillian + Knute Part II

As promised, more from Jillian and Knute’s fabulous day, as captured by Anna Kuperberg.

I simply love the tablescapes.  The silver and pink combination is so festive and different - and the low and lush centerpieces are gorgeous!  And obviously, you can’t lose with the setting of the One and Only Palmilla.

Shades of Red with Pink and Silver

Reader Linh writes in to say:

My dress is an ivory strapless dress with a gold sash, and the bridesmaids dresses are floor length charcoal gray. I have been trying to do up inspiration boards for the 3 color combinations but I don’t get a sense of cohesion. I’d like to incorporate burgundy (but am afraid it may be too dark for our venue). Then I thought maybe gray & pink, but fiancé not a fan of a “Pink” wedding. Is it possible to do gray/silver with various shades of pink (blush to fuschia/magenta to burgundy), and some accents of gold, or is that too clashy???

Well Linh, YES!  It is.  Here’s how I see it:

Gray: Reader Boards #5 & #6

April at the ever-fantastic Blu Sky Designs just sent me over two gorgeous gray boards - better a little late than never I always say, so without further adieu:

blueand_gray.jpg

April’s first board utilizes a color that I’ve been enamored with lately, cobalt blue.  Cobalt is so strong that a little goes a long way and she smartly stayed true to the less is more adage with this stunning board.  What’s so amazing is that even though there are only half of the 14 pictures with blue and all with gray, the eyes are still drawn to the blue first.

Pale Blue and Gray

I am love love loving this color combination! The two shades are fantastic separate, or combinable into a dusky gray/blue. Any accent color would pop against these neutrals. I want a complete outfit in these shade! Or a house, or a wedding! I’ll take anything. The colors perfectly fit this cold winter’s day.
