Hello everyone! Cyd from The Sweetest Occasion here with a pretty lemon-inspired color palette for Color Week! I’ve always loved yellow. It’s such a refreshing color and it can take on so many distinct personalities depending on how you weave it throughout your day. Here it’s ladylike and elegant, with a certain timeless appeal. Paired with green and just the softest whisper of blue, I’m in love with everything yellow.

Things I Love: Watercolors

I love watercolors! I’ve been bookmarking invitations and other watercolor wedding details for months now and thought that since summer is officially here (my peonies are blooming!) that it was time to share with everyone. Speaking of peonies, I want need one of these custom wedding bouquet watercolors. What a beautiful way to capture your flowers forever.

Sherbet Florals

An Earthy Aqua Color Palette

Hi, everyone! Cyd from The Sweetest Occasion here. As a color junkie I’m loving Color Week and am really excited to be contributing this pretty color palette. Inspired by an earthy yet feminine feel, I chose a palette of aqua, peach and berry accented with soft neutrals. I love the pairing of simple materials with warm wood grain. A tiny touch of metallic adds just the right amount of glam.

Please, do me a favor! Jars and Jams

Wouldn’t peach marmalade be an adorable wedding favor? I thought so too. However, even though I consider myself a good cook, I’ve never canned anything in my life and I know it’s a cumbersome process. I envision something cute like, “Marni and Matthew’s Marmalade” on the label with stripes and a grosgrain ribbon. The thought just makes me smile!

I’ve done a little research on canning and my options for learning. I know this project is very time consuming, so I’ve also considered just purchasing the jam already made and slapping a really cute label on them! (Shh….don’t tell!)

I stumbled across Laura from The Glass Rooster. The Glass Rooster is a recently opened small business in Chicago, where the owner will come and teach a canning class for you a few others in your own home! Laura’s rates are very reasonable and she will bring all of the materials for canning right to you! All you have to do is supply the fruit and your friends. She is very super knowledgeable about produce and what’s in season!

Food in Jars is an amazing blog that’s all about canning. From canning jam, to bbq sauce, to cookie mixes to give as gifts, there is everything you would want to know about canning. The writer, Marisa McClellan, even has a how-to on turning jam into bbq sauce- how creative! That may be what I’ll be doing after the wedding if we have leftover favors!

I’ve also done some very enjoyable “research” on one of my favorite websites, Etsy, where I can always find what I’m looking for. Oh Etsy, how I love thee and I know I’m not the only one! There are many sellers who will can jam for you and send it right to your house. This sounds easy, right?! I find that wedding planning and some DIY projects are so time consuming that with only approximately 120 days until the wedding, I’m leaning towards going this route. Hopes Pantry specializes in Strawberry Pineapple Jam and Fogl’s Kitchen makes jam and biscotti! Yum!

Speaking of jars, I hoped to include some vintage mason jars into the wedding decor. I asked my Uncle Jerry who is an antique aficionado to help me find some. I was amazed at what he collected for me! I am in love with all of the varying sizes of the LeParfait jars and the vintage Ball mason jars. My mom also found a beautiful vintage fruit crate that we’ll use on the place card table and galvanized buckets that will planted and used down the aisle. I’ve found that when you ask family to help, they are move than happy and do feel honored!

To top it off, I created a treasury list inspired by Peach Marmalade a few weeks ago. Clearly, I cannot wait until Spring and the day I marry Matthew! PS: Creating treasury lists are a fun and easy way to create an inspiration board.

Let’s get inspired!

Over the holidays, I faced a myriad of questions about theme, color, decor, etc. etc. etc. I realized then that it was time to stop gathering inspiration and start really nailing down my vision. So I went throw my lots (and lots) of saved pictures to find those that spoke to me. I was looking for fun and whimsical, but still elegant. A little bit fall, but not a harvest celebration. And lots of room for DIY touches and plenty of candles!

In all my folders of images, I found one that just grabbed me:

I LOVED the navy tablecloth with the burlap runner, the pink and purple tones in the flowers, and the oodles of candles. And the square tables just push it over the edge! Elegant without being stuffy.

Almost immediately I found my color inspiration, drawing from the beloved centerpiece image and one of favorite fabric designers (and fellow Nashvillian)

And there we had it–my perfect fall-ish color scheme: grape. merlot, peony, navy, ocean, and natural white. So from there I sifted through my images to put together my inspiration board. The result?

Ta-Da! Elegant but whimsical (with a nod towards safari chic)! What do you think?

My Colors are Blush and Bashful

While I love the fall (it is my favorite time of the year), I don’t necessarily love the fall at my wedding. When meeting with my florist (The Garden Gate) I was very clear in while this is a fall wedding… it is NOT a Fall Festival. This is a bit of a challenge since we are getting married during the last weekend of the Arboretum Autumn Festival. What does that mean? There will be pumpkins, mums and fall colors everywhere (it looks like a pumpkin patch exploded).

Since I don’t love fall colors and most of the flowers I like are not in bloom in November (why peonies, why can’t you bloom in November?), I decided to not pick colors. I am not a super matchy matchy person (which my mother is so sick of hearing me profess) so I like the idea of going with different color schemes inside and out. Outside we are planning on bright colors to accent the fall colors that are displayed at the Arboretum, and then inside we are going with lighter non-fall color scheme.

So sorry Fall, you are not going to make the guest list, but feel free to send a gift :)

We Need a Little Color

As I was starting to check off a number of the big ticket wedding action-items (ceremony, reception, wedding planner), and making some great headway, I wanted to dive-in to the specific {and FUN} elements of what I was imagining for our wedding.

A little background on how I came up with “the colors”…from day one of wedding planning, I was 100% set on incorporating classic southern elements into our big day… just like my Mom says, ‘I am a girl that knows what I want’. I knew I wanted a timeless, yet chic color scheme. I have ALWAYS been a girl that LOVES to add color—into my wardrobe and home décor especially—but for my wedding, I wanted classic colors that would stand the test of time and not look so “dated”. On the other hand, seeing as we were having a summer wedding in the middle of June and knowing my personality for “boldness and fun”, I wanted to include an accent color into my otherwise traditional color palette…something that illustrates both of our personalities and adds a “pop” of color.

With that perspective in mind, I started my search and went on the hunt for the perfect inspiration board. Honestly, I must have looked through hundreds of ideas online and perused every wedding magazine imaginable, trying to find ONE that captured every detail I want to incorporate, but with no real luck. So, being the crafty person I am, I took it upon myself to put my graphic abilities to work and create my own inspiration board—and here is the finished product with our colors:

Black and White with Pops of Sunshine Yellow

Black and white are the simple elements of color for our wedding, but when you add in a vibrant hue such as yellow, a brand new vision is established and transforms the ordinary to something quite {in my mind} extraordinary. Looking at our venues, these colors will coordinate and create a cohesive look while still remaining all things timeless—oh I can’t wait!

The Perfect Palette

Choosing a color palette was one of the most difficult things for me in my wedding planning. I always thought I would get married in the spring or summer and have a big, bright yellow wedding. After the Captain and I decided to get married and quickly picked a date, I began brainstorming color palettes for TBD. I knew one thing for sure, I wanted nothing to do with Christmas. No red/green combo or christmas trees would be found at my wedding. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, love it. Just not at my wedding.

So here is how the color choosing went down. I would usually pick a couple colors, call my sister and tell her I had finally chosen the perfect color palette. A similar phone call would take place a week later (sometimes days) proclaiming to her that I had found an even better color combination or theme. The following are the many stages of themes and colors I went through before deciding on my perfect one.

Carnival Theme
Sage, Slate and White
Navy and Green
Purple and Mustard Yellow
Chartruese and Black
Peacock theme: Plum, teal and Brown
Plum and Blue

I think there were a few others. It was terrible. I would decide, then re-decide never settling on anything I loved.

And to top it all off, the Captain actually had an opinion about this. In fact, he has an opinion about most things pertaining to our wedding. I love this about the Captain, because honestly, I trust his opinion over mine.

He wasn’t too keen on the green.

Purple was out because my sister had already claimed that color for her wedding (which happened to be in August).

I couldn’t let go of my yellow dreams.

Everyone kept telling me to do what I want and forget about the “norm” for seasonal weddings.

Then I found this. The Perfect Palette is an entire blog dedicated to wedding color palettes! It whet my palette so to speak, and I was inspired from the following color palettes.

Finally, we decided on….

Mustard Yellow and Navy Blue!

Inspiration Boards: Lots of Pink!

Pink is a popular wedding color – for me it’s got so much personality. It can be vivid, bright and darling or sweet and soft. Here are some of my favorite inspiration boards featuring pink, including the board I’m using as inspiration for my wedding!

Pink and Gray

Here is the one I am using for my color scheme. I created this board using the Dessy.com color palette tool.

Pink and Red

This theme, which is so summery and bright, is taken directly from Martha Stewart.
