Advice From the Pros: Louella Court
We are so pleased to welcome the girls from Louella Court to EAD today for our next Advice From the Pros segment! Louella Press and Two Paperdolls are sister companies specializing in retail stationery and custom designs, respectively. They are based just outside Philadelphia.
EAD: What is the single best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms as they begin to plan their event?
LC: whether you’ve got big plans or small ones for your wedding, give yourself until the week before the big day to get everything done. At that point, let go of any details that you didn’t have time for and let yourself relax. For lots of you, friends and family will be in town, so make plans to be with them or spend some solo time soaking it all in. When the time comes to walk down the aisle you’ll feel stress-free (or at least less stressed) and over time those moments will be more memorable than any wedding day details you might have planned.

Hand-Drawn Maps
Every wedding invitation seems to have a map in it, which I think is a great idea. If it’s functional, it’s a printout from Google Maps. Or it’s art, like Laura Hooper’s maps.
I love them, they’re beautiful. I just can’t afford to commission one, so I’m looking for something in the middle. I’d also like to be able to print it with my Gocco, which is sort of the consolation prize for not hiring Laura Hooper.

RSVP Packets: Treasure Boxes
The RSVP packets have been received by the guests so now I can do the big reveal!
A. and I went over many ways of including lots of information for all of my guests about my upcoming vow renewal, which is a three-day event, but all the ideas seemed so unoriginal. Then one day we hit upon the idea of vintage letters, which led to thinking of the containers of memories we all have stashed away. So in that spirit came my RSVP packets, designed to resemble a stash of memories in a vintage treasure box.

The “treasure box” is a DVD tin, painted, decorated and gocco’d. All of the amazing calligraphy you’ll see is courtesy of Laura Hooper. It’s her Elegance script and in my opinion, it really made everything perfect! Each of the words were hand-written by Laura; she then scanned and emailed them to me so that I could gocco all of the stationery and the tin itself.
The words are all written in French, a play on RSVP being a french phrase. You’ll see this slightly-French theme carried throughout my vow renewal…

It’s Only a Paper Sandwich
My favorite thing so far has been working on the invitations. I know that they’re just paper and will be circular filed by nearly everyone. But the invitations ended up being weirdly important to me in a way I hadn’t anticipated.
I have a less than ideal family situation. For as long as I can remember, I’ve craved a feeling of belonging and stability. With DJ, finally having that that was my “you just know, it just feels right.” For me, these invitations are the start of the wedding itself. There’s the stated purpose, there are our names, that’s when it will happen. I love that. So I guess I’ve been dragging my heels on finishing them. Is there a cheerful counterpoint to Penelope weaving and unweaving her shroud?

DIY Entry #11: Gocco Thank You Notes
Katie created beautiful thank you notes using recycled cardstock and her gocco!
The clip art was found {here} and the font is from dafont. To make the cards, Katie had a ream of recycled cardstock cut in half lengthwise. She then folded in half (using a bone folder for a crisp crease) to create an A2-size card and completed the look by rounding the corners. The gocco printing was done in silver and black ink and the overall look complemented her reception held in a historic home!

Gocco Coasters
I am admittedly behind in reading some of my favorite blogs - so I just came across Tina’s DIY Gocco coasters!
Love this project and for $17, you can’t beat the cuteness for the price. Great job Tina!
