I can use my Gocco for…

Making a stencil!  I just found this out last night while experimenting with it.  Simply burn your design on the screen and then cut the blue screen away from the cardboard.  Voila - a reusable custom stencil.

My First Gocco Experience

As promised, tonight’s the night.

Kudos to Erin from Lucky Designs who won the Gocco contest!  Here is her lovely design:

I had to modify it a very slight bit to take the side circles off, because the Gocco doesn’t *quite* print 4×6.  I chose Erin’s design because of two things… 1) how cool is it that she was smart enough to use our initial? and 2) it was very detailed so I wanted to see how the detailing would print with the Gocco.  I decided to print silver on blue cardstock.  One color, flat cards.  I tried to make it easy.  So here goes!

Gocco Contest

Thanks everyone for all of your submissions!  I’ve chosen a winner and as promised will be Gocco-ing this weekend (AND getting my Christmas cards ready for mailing, AND going to check out DEPART-ment, among the bazillion other non-crafty things I must do!), so it will be a light day for posting.  Tomorrow night I promise to post a full step by step tutorial and photo gallery of my first Gocco experience.

Have a great Saturday!

It’s HERE!!!… and a Contest ending Friday

My Gocco, that is. I need a project to break it in - any ideas? Best idea receives 10 free sets of whatever I make, including envelopes! The only rules - it has to be a single screen, since it’s my first project, and less than 4×6 in size. You can either send designs to elizabeth at elizabethannedesigns dot com or just post ideas below - be as specific or as general as you like! Contest ends Friday night at midnight so I can Gocco this weekend - winner to be announed on Sunday evening along with a step-by-step photo gallery of my first Gocco experience!

Many of you have asked where I purchased my Gocco from, and for some more details on the machine itself. I purchased a PG-11 from the ebay seller printaddictjapan. She shipped from Japan in 4 business days! I decided on the PG-11 after reading many articles about the different models - the PG-11 is an upgrade over the PG-5 machine because it has a registration plate that makes printing multiple colors easier.

My ink came from Northwood Studios - they are in the US, have a great selection of ink and supplies, and very reasonable and fast shipping. The ink also came today - as you can see I got LOTS of colors!

OK - give me some good ideas please! I’m waiting to play until I hear from all of you.

Pretty Gocco-ed Things

spaceball.gifIn honor of my soon-to-be-in-the-mail Gocco, I decided to post the many images of pretty pretty gocco-ed things that I have been collecting.

These invitation sets made by Ugly Kitty and found on the Gocco Flickr group are two examples of why I’m so excited to get mine - printing color on color and printing metallic!

Here’s another reason - printing white!

I am getting a Gocco!

Those of you who have been reading for a while may remember my post on Gocco and how I am/was obsessed with this little machine!  Well, today I bought myself my Christmas present and I am getting a Gocco!

I am obsessed with Gocco

I have been a fan of the Weddingbee blog for months now - well, ever since I began planning my vow renewal, really. And every time I search DIY (I am doing a LOT of things myself) something gocco-ed catches my eye.

What is Gocco? Well, although I don’t have one, what I can glean from my hour of research tonight is that Gocco is basically a way to screen print on paper at home. It uses light bulbs to burn any carbon-based paper image onto a screen, which you then ink and press down onto paper. The great thing is that you can do multiple colors and very intricate images, and it can literally print anything you can photocopy within its size.

Here is the Weddingbee thread on Gocco and a link to the Flickr group for Gocco. Also, via the Weddingbee site, I found this picture of a Gocco-ed card that is simply amazing.

My impression from reading is that the ink doesn’t look at all like it does via printing from an inkjet printer. It looks either like lithography or vintage printing. My guess, although I have not yet seen it, is that it is WAY cooler than offset printing.

The bummer? Gocco is discontinued in the US. It’s a Japanese product that was highly popular in the 1980s and has experienced a resurgence via blogs and groups and brides that are much more DIY than in the past. Ebay still has some machines listed, but they are relatively expensive, around $200. I believe that all of the component parts are available at most art stores and even at Paper Source.

I now desperately want a Gocco. I can’t even imagine all of the fun I’d have with it!
