Tag I’m It.

I’ve been tagged by Meredith to share 6 random things about myself.  Here are the rules of this little game:

1) you link back to the person who tagged you.
2) post these rules on your blog.
3) share six unimportant things about yourself.
4) tag six random people at the end of your entry.
5) let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs

Here goes.

1) I hate all seafood.  Except for canned tuna in macaroni and cheese.

Boston

I’m off to Boston for a week.  Does anyone have great suggestions?  Or stores they would love to check out?  I’ll review!

Wow

Helloooo Readers!

Long time no write!  I’ve been obnoxiously busy with work and trying to organize life for a week long business trip that starts tomorrow.  It’s been hectic, to say the least.

To add to the crazy days and nights, my father in law called late last week with a catering emergency.  He works in the restaurant business, and a close friend needed servers for a wedding.  Her normal staff was unavailable.  We were happy to help.  I was interested in seeing what happened behind the scenes at a wedding.

We spent two hours setting up and then tearing it down at the end of the night.  We threw away bags upon bags of trash.  We met a fantastic photographer and her second shooter.  We underestimated a DJ with a horrible sign.  We served a lot of alcohol.

One thing I learned, I wouldn’t recommend flipping a space for ceremony and reception unless you have a HIGHLY organized coordinator and caterer.

Oh, and hire a caterer who is smart enough to emergency rent a heater for the abnormally cold weather and who knows what people to kick into high gear when linens are missing.

Puppies!

Since we’re on the subject of puppies, I decided to be a BIG tease — on the left is my adorable pup Charlie.  On the right?  Laura Hooper’s amazingly accurate artistic rendering of him!  I have been staring at my baby’s portrait ALL DAY.  Isn’t Laura unbelievable?

Unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait a while to see what we have up our sleeves for the little guy on the right - but I promise, it will be worth it!

Ah, love, sweet love.

What’s the best way to celebrate your anniversary?  For us, dinner at our favorite local restaurant and a (fresh!) piece of wedding cake while we watched our new puppy antagonize his older brother.  That’s right.  We’ve become “that” couple.  The one who rushes home from social engagements because the “children” need some attention.  We are now the proud owners of two dogs, both the same lab mix and solid black.

Meet Winston, the newest member of our family.

My cats just want to help!

Our three cats really are our best friends, so when we think about which friends and family we want to honor at our wedding, it seems strange to purposely exclude our little guys.  But, unlike the growing trend of canine ring bearers, there’s no meaningful opportunity for felines to contribute.  So let me put it to the readers:  how can we honor our beloved pets at our wedding, without them physically being there?

One Year

 ead.jpg

The hubby and I are celebrating our very first anniversary today. It’s been an AMAZING year spent with my best friend. I am so crazy in love with him! I brag on him to everyone, and yes, I do believe he’s the best husband ever!

My true wedding confession?  I forgot the seating chart and E had to recreate it from memory.  :)

Spark People Videos

Spark People was one of my favorite sites while planning for our wedding. It’s a great way (although very time consuming) to keep track of calories and find support for getting in shape. They just sent over an email advertising their new workout videos. This is perfect for me because I hate our gym, and our computer is in our office with plenty of open hardwood floor to work out on. I’m excited to try these out!

Ashley’s Shower

I had fun last week designing a baby shower invitation for a friend.  It’s in early April.

The invites were printed on ivory cardstock and backed with the perfect shade of pale metallic pink paper.  I drew a garland and then colored each flag in with watercolors.  They turned out beautifully!

Halfway through, E and I decided that they did in fact look better with rounded corners.  My hands were bruised by the time I finished punching.

The best part?  Seeing our beautiful logo on the back of the cards.

What I’m up to….

At the end of January, Liene posted on a book called Thinkertoys.  She was so emphatic about buying it that I immediately added to my Amazon wishlist (I’m a firm believer in listening to people who have achieved success and are still willing to share advice).  It arrived yesterday, and even though I’ve barely gotten through the introduction and part of the first exercise, it has helped!  Thanks Liene for passing this on!

I’m still avoiding my Google Reader, and am not starting to categorize by “Daily Must Reads”, “Weekly Must Reads” and “Reads when I have an hour or two to kill.”  I’m at 432 unread items and counting…..

I just discovered a new blog via a comment on Style Me Pretty.  Go check out Cara at Peonies and Polaroids.

March is our busiest month at work.  We’re working on a ton of abstracts and preparing for a meeting in Boston.  Just counting down the days until we’re done….
