Introducing LeeAnn

My name is LeeAnn and I’m a newlywed. I feel as if I’m a part of an anonymous online addiction meeting. I know this should not be taken lightly. But, I am addicted to all things wedding related. There, I said it!

Geoff and I were married August 2, 2008 at the Ayres Hotel in Manhattan Beach, California. It has been more than two months and I can’t stop reading wedding blogs!

Real Wedding: Kerri + Jamie

We have another beautiful wedding from Tana Photography. Kerri and Jamie married last September in Boise, Idaho. The bride and groom planned every detail together, putting to rest the myth that all grooms refuse to get involved in party planning. The wedding was very intimate, only 50 guests were in attendance.

The photostrip feel of these 3 images immediately pulled me in.

You can tell the bride and groom were comfortable and relaxed. How cute are the bare feet!

Details after the jump…

LHE Real Weddings in the Hamptons

This wedding took place at a private residence in Watermill, NY. The bride wanted to incorporate a color scheme of teal and pink, for her late-summer wedding. In addition, she wanted detailed elements of shells and starfish to create a beach theme. The ceremony took place on the property overlooking the bay.  The guests then moved to the pool area for a Tuscan themed cocktail hour, as the couple was engaged in Italy. The tented reception had a U2 cover band and exceptional decor by Artfool. This wedding is featured in the current issue of The Knot NYC Metro. Head over to LHEverything if you would like to see some more photos by the fantastic Maggie Heinzel-Neel.

Real Weddings: Jenny + Micah

When I saw a few images from Tana Photography on With This Ring, I knew I had to find out more.  I’m happy I did!  Tana’s blog is filled with the loveliest of images from my home state of Idaho.  She graciously sent over images from two weddings and we’re so happy to share them with you!

Micah and Jenny began their marriage in September of last year.  They used pears throughout the celebration, and the result is so chic and sweet.

The lovely couple (how gorgeous is Jenny?!)

Oh the details!  How we love them.  The pears are perfect for the colors and location.  They chose mostly black and white with a few hints of green.

LHE Real Wedding in NYC

This wedding took place at the Central Park Observatory Gardens, followed by a reception at the Rainbow Room. Carrie from LHE was the planner on this event. With these photos, we really wanted to highlight the beauty of New York City. It is common for our clients to take photos at their favorite places throughout the City. It just so happens that these clients chose to take photos right near our offices in TriBeCa. We rented a double decker tour bus to take them and their guests around the city. The photos are from the talented Brian Dorsey. We have more photos from this event at our blog, LHEverything.com.

New Venue Alert: Woodrow Hall

Ok ladies and gents, I’m giving you an in.  My wonderful husband just finished up the website for a new venue in Birmingham called Woodrow Hall.  We had a chance to tour it a few weeks ago and it is gorgeous.

The building is a former Mason temple built in 1914.  The main room seats 150 for dinner.  It has a lobby perfect for cocktail hour, and this truly would be a great venue for a small intimate wedding.  It’s in historic Woodlawn and the owner (our landlord) has put a lot of time into restoring this and making it as green as possible (soy based tile, etc.)

They’re having a grand opening celebration from 1-6pm this Saturday.  The hubby and I are going as representatives of Elizabeth Anne and D2LGraphics.  If you want to meet up, email me at rebekah at elizabethannedesigns dot com.

It’s A Reunion

Sometime in the middle of planning a $2,000 wedding, it occurred to me, “Why not think of it as a reunion instead of a wedding?” Weddings tend to focus on surface things like flowers, attire, and centerpieces. Reunions tend to be about fun.

When it was time to plan the reception, we focused on just that: Fun. We rented out an entire B&B in the mountains of Colorado. We set up tables in a grove of trees, and our guests feasted on homemade fajitas, tamales, guacamole, salsa, nachos, seven-layer dip, black bean and corn salad, frozen margaritas, and six different types of cakes.

After dinner, we gathered everyone on the flagstone patio for our first dance. Matt and I stood in the center of the dance floor, surrounded by a semi-circle of our wedding party. Our friend, Nick, announced that it was time for our first dance. Matt and I stared lovingly into each other’s eyes. The music started. It was “Kiss” by Prince. We immediately started scissoring our hands and gyrating our hips. The entire wedding party joined in and we performed a choreographed dance, complete with a semi-strip tease by Matt’s brother.

The Welcome Picnic

At a lot of weddings I’ve been to, I’ve either felt like I was part of the “in crowd” or I was on the outside. If I’m in the wedding party? I’m part of the in crowd. If I’m not invited to the rehearsal dinner? I’m on the outside.

Even though Matt and I planned a $2,000 wedding, we didn’t want to have those kinds of divisions. We wanted to spend quality time with everyone. That’s why we opted for a Welcome Picnic instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner. In order for it to fit within our strict budget, we had to simplify: make-your-own sandwich bar (including organic meat from Whole Foods!), chips, watermelon, iced-tea, lemonade, and homemade chocolate cherry dessert with vanilla ice-cream.

Two Big Decisions

Honestly, one of the most difficult parts of the wedding planning process was trimming down the guest list (or should I say, “going at it with a machete”?). The list started out gigantic, even for our $2,000 wedding. We knew we had to cut it back because of Goal #5 for our ideal wedding: “We will have real time to spend with guests. We want to be able to spend quality time with our friends and family. We don’t want to follow the traditional pattern of a few wedding ‘events’ where the bride and groom only have time for a ‘meet and greet’: rehearsal dinner, reception, brunch the following morning. We want more of a family and friends reunion.” We knew that the bigger our wedding got, the less opportunity we would have to genuinely connect with our guests.
