Elegant Wedding on Family Farm

If I were to do it all again, I might just recreate every perfect detail from Avery and Miles’ wedding. The couple were married at Avery’s family farm, outside of Durham, NC, and Nicholas Sparks couldn’t have penned it better if he tried! Avery’s maid of honor and wedding planner, Sheila Camp Motley, not only pulled double duty, but also created a gorgeous affair that was the perfect combination of relaxed and classic. After a ceremony on the front porch, guests made their way through a walkway marked by balloons to the backyard, where a reception tent full of fluffy blooms from Pat’s Floral Designs and a gorgeous tiered cake from Sugarland Bakery awaited. Avery is the epitome of Southern elegance in a custom Badgley Mischka gown, while Miles is dapper in classic black tie. Their wedding is the perfect juxtaposition of sophisticated and charm, and we adore each beautiful image from Jen Fariello!

Tent Wedding on Farm

From the bride: I had been alerted by a women with whom that I had become friends with that she felt compelled to pass my email address along to her son and now feared that perhaps she had over stepped her bounds and done a bad thing. Thankfully out of embarrassment or boredom, my friend’s son had taken the time and initiative to reach out. He explained that he was fiercely independent and that his mother had never before inserted herself or meddled in his life and as such he could not help but be intrigued. From there we began trading slightly flirty emails about life, dogs, and other matters. Did I mention that I lived in Palm Beach and he lived in New York?

Very quickly our email exchanges blossomed into marathon, all night telephone conversations and I knew that a rare, special someone had appeared on the horizon. We saw each other every weekend alternating between New York and Palm Beach. Later that August he asked me to marry him in the wake of a holiday we had taken in Turkey choosing instead to get down on one knee on top of a cupola overlooking Charleston, SC.

We would be married over a year later on my parents farm outside of Durham, NC. However, my mother had been visualizing if not planning the day since my family moved there from Chapel Hill over twenty years ago. She would often joke that she was planting in anticipation of the big day when in reality, I was merely 12 and far more interested in horses than boys. People often talk about their wedding as being one of the happiest and most beautiful days of their life. And thanks to my mother, and my above mentioned best friend who pulled double duty as maid of honor and wedding planner, ours truly was.

The weather was perfect, which I attribute to the bottle of Makers Mark that we buried beneath the altar.

Classic + Timeless Rhode Island Wedding

Certain weddings are simply so captivating that it’s nearly impossible to select which frames to showcase, and Jessica and Jay’s timeless Rhode Island wedding is one such soiree. The couple set out to incorporate the historic and coastal surroundings of their Providence setting, and were married at one of the oldest Catholic churches in the city, Our Lady of the Rosary. A few blocks away sits the Hope Club, established in the 1800s, a most picturesque setting for their reception. Pomfret Florist created arrangements in color palette of colonial blue and peach, with subtle nautical details such as rope table number stands and a light touch of delicate baby’s breath. Jessica is resplendent in a Monique Lhuillier gown with accompanying custom lace wrap from Carine’s Bridal Atelier. Every moment is exquisite, and perfectly captured by Rebecca Arthurs!

    Colorful Mountain Wedding

Every square inch of Caroline and Jack’s spring mountain wedding is vibrant, colorful, and fresh! Held at Snow Basin Ski Resort, the wedding made the most of its surroundings. A ceremony in the warm May sun featured a backdrop of the breathtaking Utah mountains. The chic reception featured vivid florals by Blossom Sweet (how stunning are the fluffy fuchsia peonies?) with rustic details, like the beautiful log vessels, and classic elements like the place cards by Karli Noel CalligraphyFUSE Weddings and Events made sure the day went off without a hitch, and as Caroline says, the guests “could see our hearts through the simple yet elegant wedding.” We are head over heels for every image from Green Apple Photography!

    Classic New York Vineyard Wedding

A little rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of Lauren and Robert on their wedding day at the lovely Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue, New York! The theme of the day was “refined rustic.” A clean color palette of green, white, and ivory brought out the natural beauty of the surroundings. Lauren’s father officiated their ceremony, held under a large tree within the orchard. The rain let up for a few precious moments, allowing for the outdoor celebration! Paying tribute to their locale, the couple’s favors were baked apple cider donuts from the nearby Wickham’s Fruit Farm and created a “North Fork Iced Tea” for their signature cocktail. House of Flowers created beautiful arrangements of anemones, succulents, peonies, hydrangea and wildflowers, and set next to iron lanterns the result was classic and sophisticated. Lauren is a vision in a lace Marchesa gown from Mark Ingram Atelier, with the perfect Tiffany blue Badgley Mischka heels as her something blue! Every image from Lindsay Madden Photography is absolute perfection.

From the bride: Our vineyard wedding was an amazingly fun, beautiful day (despite the unexpected rain) filled with lots of love and very special memories! The rain literally showed up on the radar at 2pm that day! We had even cancelled the tent for our cocktail hour because there was no trace of rain in the forecast. In the end, the rain only added to the romance of the day and our pictures came out better as a result.

Our flowers were by far the most beautiful element of our wedding day, aside from the spectacular setting. Like our wedding venue, they were what I would call ‘refined rustic.’ The elegant, muted color palette of green, white and ivory was subtle and did not distract from the natural beauty of the vineyard. The striking and graphic look of the anemones were offset by the softness of the peonies, hydrangea and wildflowers. They looked classic in urns, next to black iron lanterns but were modernized by the various succulents in moss covered containers scattered around the tables.

When we saw the venue for the first time, we knew for certain that we wanted to have our ceremony under the large tree in the orchard. This was why, when were were surprised by the rain, we waited until the last second to decide where we wanted our ceremony to be. We were so glad that the rain held up long enough to have our ceremony out there. It literally started down pouring the second the ceremony was over and everyone was inside! We asked that our florist decorate the tree in a way that made it look really special but also in a way that the natural beauty of the tree was not diminished. I was so pleasantly surprised to see what he created as I walked down the aisle. Peonies and glass bulbs hung from white petal covered ‘vines’ in an arch like shape to frame the two of us on the ‘altar.’ The vines blew around lightly in the breeze.

My mother passed away in 2008. A big goal of ours was to honor her in a way that would evoke happy memories rather than be a sad focus of the day. My sister/maid of honor surprised me with a small locket with two pictures of our mother in it. It was pinned to my bouquet, which was also wrapped with a small piece of lace cut from our mother’s wedding gown. It was so special to be able to have her so close to me all day. We also had a ‘heritage table’ in the reception space featuring the wedding pictures of our two sets of parents and grandparents. Additionally, Bobby and I danced to my parents wedding song for our first dance – I Only Have Eyes for You by the Flamingos and my maternal grandmother said a blessing before dinner.

The setting could not have been more beautiful, ‘refined rustic’ is how we like to describe it, and the food, drinks and dancing kept us and our guests happy and smiling from beginning to end!
