Do you have (or would you like to have) a cork board in your home office?  They’re a great way for keeping important papers or contact info front and center or leaving notes for family members.  The problem is that they can look messy and/or boring.  A simple fix – give it a focal point.  Here’s an example of this in practice:

What you’ll need to recreate this idea:

  1. Four cork tiles - you can find them from ReStockIt.com for $12.24
  2. A backing for the tiles – probably quarter inch plywood cut to size
  3. Adhesive to attach the tiles to the backing
  4. A postcard or photo you love – free from your own collection or check out etsy finds like “Spirit Rising” from LilloArts
  5. A frame one or two sizes larger than your postcard/photo – check the sales at AC Moore, Michaels, or Jo-Ann
  6. A scrap of paper that coordinates with the postcard/photo and ideally the color scheme for your room/home
  7. Hanging hardware – for the cork board and for the frame

Putting this into practice needs no real explanation once you have the “ingredients.”  The key to keeping your corkboard attractive as well as useful is to keep the number of items on the board to a minimum.  Trust me – you’ll be able to find the useful items more easily this way.
