In the hopes of heading off the holiday five, I’ve started a new running program. My goal? Looking fabulous for E’s vow renewal!
The problem? I haven’t ran faithfully in almost 2 years, so I’ve been looking for a running plan that is easy to follow and starts off at a very basic level. I found the Couch to 5K program at Cool Running.
After the first two weeks, I’m happy to report that it is very easy to follow. Between this and the 30 day Shred I should be looking good for E’s vow renewal.

I’ve been wanting to try this program, but 1) I’m really not a runner, and 2) beginning a running program during the MN winter is a bit intimidating (no gym membership for me). *sigh* Apparently I’m full of excuses. :)

I’ve been working on a couch-to-5K program too! I looked at the one you are doing, but went with a different, similar plan, that just tells you totals for jogging and walking (I think it was froma triathlon site), and that was all the info my poor brain could handle.
I was just really getting into it when it got too cold/windy for me outside, so I switched to the treadmill for winter. I’m lucky enough to live in an apartment complex with a basic gym on premises for free (because I definitely can’t afford a gym membership right now). I can definitely tell that it’s not as hard of a workout as outside, and I know that my dog misses his runs/walks, but I am just not that tough!
I’m close to the end of my second month, and running a little over half of my allotted half hour total. I’ve found it to be easier than I expected (I couldn’t run more than a few feet when I started), and I’ve been able to recover very quickly from a couple of down patches (like not getting any running in while traveling for Thanksgiving).
Good for you!
i really like cool runnings’ program. i am a TERRIBLE runner but made it through the program like a champ. i think it’s hilarious that you are doing this right now because i’m trying to get back into running right now too. i just started slogging this past weekend. yeah, slogging is the right term. *le sigh*

Oooh, I feel your pain! After my august wedding I DEFINITELY slacked off a bit—I think it had something to do with not having that white dress looming in my future. Now I’m trying to get back in the swing of things. This looks like a great program! And I’ve heard so much about 30 day shred…you’ll have to let us know how you like it!
Though I have to say, it’s very unfair of you to tempt us with the gorgeous mac and cheese recipe below ;)
I really like this running program too!
