Yesterdays Flowers… Tomorrow’s Memories
I have always loved getting flowers and the big beautiful bouquet of soft pink and white roses on my wedding day was no exception. But after the wedding, I didn’t know what to do with my bouquet. I didn’t want to throw it out, but I also didn’t want to put it under glass and display it in the living room like my Grandmother. Instead of doing anything, the bouquet simply gathered dust. Inspiration finally hit when I remembered what a friend who once told me about memory potpouri.
Memory potpourri is easy to make:
1) Chose a few of your favorite flowers from each bouquet that you receive whether it is from your husband on valentine’s day or your bridesmaid’s bouquet from your best friend’s wedding
2) Let the flowers dry (roses and spray are some of the best for drying while lilys and tulips don’t fair quite as well) and once they are dry, put the flowers in box that can hold your potpourri collection while it grows.
3) Keep a card in the box where you record a description of the flowers as you add them and include the name and date of the event they relate to.
4) Store the flowers until you have a big enough collection that you can display in an attractive vase or container. You can choose to add scent or not, either way, you have a beautiful display that represents important events in your life.

I hung my whole, huge bouquet upside down in a cool, dry place for several weeks, then put in in a glass vase when it had completely dried. It currently lives on top of our china cabinet. Not sure it’ll last forever this way as I didn’t use anything to preserve it, but I’ve enjoyed its presence as part of our decor since our wedding 3 years ago. :)
I threw my bouquet away. :)
Ooh- I like this idea a lot! I don’t know that I can bring myself to pull the dried petals off of my cute bouquet, but for future flowers from my husband this is great! Thanks!
This is such a great idea—my bouquet is hanging upside down in our closet, getting more and more squished each time I look for something to wear! Because it was white, it hasn’t dried in the prettiest way…sort of yellow and wrinkly brown. But I love the idea of saving the petals and adding to them over the years!
