I keep all the stapes for baking on a whim, but never for food -- rather, every week (or two weeks) when we go to the grocery store, I plan out enough dinner options for however many days before we will go to the grocery store next (depends on my lab schedule and Husband's call schedule), and buy exactly what I need for those recipes. Honestly, in our teeny tiny postage-sized condo, I don't have room to store excess things that will not be consumed within the next week or so. And since I'm always making a list of what options will be for dinner, I never get home late from lab unable to decide what to make, and I always have everything that I need.
