Destinations: Tucson, Arizona

I love adventure traveling, crafting and DIY projects, building houses in Botswana, and baking key lime pies!

For this week’s adventures in traveling I picked something a little bit closer than Istanbul.  Right now when most of us are suffering through the pains of winter there are parts of the country that are at a balmy 70 degrees.  For your next vacation why not visit Tucson, Arizona?  The Sonora Desert provides a stunning backdrops, endless hiking trails and breath-taking sunsets, and that is in the winter!

If spending your time hiking through the great out-of-doors is not your thing but shopping is, cross into Nogales, Mexico, only a couple hours south of Tucson for a day of shopping and delicious mexican food.  Even on a budget vacation like this it is possible to leave the country:

Worn out from all that hiking and shopping simply spend the day relaxing by the pool.  Tucson is home to an incredible number of resorts and golf courses where you can spend all day doing absolutely nothing… which of course is what vacation is all about!

If Tucson sounds like the vacation destination for you I have lots more first hand experience to share… just ask!

  2. Wow to the colors in the first picture!

  3. You are soooooooooooo right. We live on the East Side of Tucson and if you go out East on Tanque Verde and take a left on Ft. Lowell and keep going East – Ft. Lowell runs out into a nice neighborhood – take your first left on a paved road. It will say “to trail” follow road out about a mile to parking lot. That is where you can hike with dog or ride horses straight up the Agua Caliente trail and get great views of the Catalina’s the Rincons and a terrific view of the City. Enjoy and come anytime of the year. Today I am in shorts and t-shirt and less than an hour a way there’s 4 feet of snow — what a place – 5 hours West – San Diego – 6 hours south San Carlos, scuba in the Baja what else can I say………….welll a lot more but not right now……Jake – see it to believe it —- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKXDHtEJPkI
