Decor: Bedroom Revamp, Part 3

My interests are photography and crafting. I am a resident of the beautiful southern city of Birmingham, Alabama. You can read more about my life on Honeysuckle Life.

Now that we’ve picked a bed, I need two side tables for the bed, and a bookshelf or bench for the foot of the bed.  I’m not a huge fan of matching bedroom sets, so I’m comfortable mixing and matching different furniture to acheive a look I like.

First up, the side tables. I found a few favorites at Ikea.  I also looked at Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel (over budget) and West Elm and CB2 (didn’t find anything I truly loved).

Engan Side Table by Ikea, $49.99. The clean cube is very appealing.  However, I’m not sure the drawers would be durable enough.  I do want these to last for a while

Trondheim Side Table by Ikea, $79.99. I love the simple style, but wishing it came in other colors.  White painted wood just won’t work in this bedroom.

Mandal Side Table by Ikea, $69.99. It looks very modern vintage to me, and I know Frank would love this one as well.

The Ikea tables just weren’t enough for me, so I widened my search to Google Images.  You would be surprised what that turns up. I found the perfect side tables via an Apartment Therapy image.

Gladsax Nightstand at Scandavian Design Center, $381 for set of two. They’re within budget and hang from the wall (fulfills my obsession with empty floors). My only fear is that they are too modern and not warm enough.  I’ll have to see what they look like in my final inspiration board.

Moving on to benches and bookcases…

Will someone please buy these benches and then show me how they look in your house?  I really like them, but they’re not the look I’m going for.

I’m really having a hard time finding the right bookshelf online.  Everything I truly love is beyond out of my budget.  For now, perhaps I should just go with two Expedit tables side to side at the foot of the bed?

I would love this bench, but I can’t do chocolate brown.

Maybe I’m just not in a bookshelf kind of mood?  I’m having a hard time putting it all together visually right now. I feel the need for an inspritation board!

we heart your comments!
  1. I like the idea of the Expedit tables as a bench! You could stack books horizontally underneath them. You’d need probably 2 or 3, depending on their width and your bed width.

And have you thought about painting or distressing that bench you like?? As long as it’s not a veneer – you could sand it down and restain it. Or paint – which is easy.

By the way, I like the third and fourth option for side tables the best. I think I like the ones that hang on the wall the very best, though.

  2. Ok, distressing had really not crossed my mind! I checked online and can’t find anything about veneer. I’ll have to call and check!

  3. I love those Rustic benches from PB. They were on our registry but no one bought them for us. I’m waiting for a good sale or a PB gift card to get them!
