Fashion: Buying in Multiples

In preparation for our move to Nicaragua, Frank and I are stocking up on shoes and clothing that we can’t buy in Managua (the capital city). The climate change won’t be extreme (steamy Birmingham has prepared us for that). We don’t need a lot of cold weather gear, a good windbreaker and pair of jeans will suffice. From what we’ve been told, there is literally one week of the year where it might get cold. We’ll be walking, biking, hiking and taking public transportation. So everything needs to be super casual, easy to move in, and durable.
Here’s what I have so far…
Four pairs of Old Navy Shorts (7″)

I bought on sale at $20 (they are now $17.50) and have never been happier. They are so soft and comfortable. I purchased a few pairs of JCrew shorts last season, and I like the Old Navy version better for everyday wear. I may purchase a few extra pairs
Chaco’s z/1 Unaweep in Atlantis

I have wanted a pair of Chacos’ for many year, but could never justify the purchase. I have a pair of water shoes that have worked until now. I’m regretting that decision. I’ve worn mine for three days now, and they are unbelievably comfortable. The traditional sandals are great for my high arch. These are definitely worth the cost. My suggestion? Buy from a local outdoor store. Zappos’ was a few dollars higher. Your local economy will thank you! If you do purchase online, they only come in whole sizes. I went a half size larger than I normally wear.
Here’s what I’m considering purchasing…
North Face Convertible Porter Pants in Pumice or Asphalt.

At $75 they are expensive for a casual pair of pants. However, I’ve never been disappointed by the quality of North Face gear. It’s also fair trade and 100% guaranteed for as long as I own it. If they rip, I can send them back and they’ll fix or replace. For the life of the product. No matter what.
Columbia Ashtanga Skirt in Bark

Columbia also has a great guarantee on their products.
Lole Chile Dress in Sage, Terracotta or China Blue.

You can tell I’ve had clothing on the brain for a few days. I featured this dress last Friday, and I’m still thinking it’s the best option.
As you can see, with a few more purchases, I’ve got enough bottoms to last for the year. I’m still searching for tops. Any great suggestions?

As I’m sure you know – layers layers layers! And in colors that can mingle. That way, if you get hot, you could take off your little hoodie to expose your tank top…. or vice versa.
Actually, I got the cutest little hoodie (on sale) at Ann Taylor Loft, it’s lightweight with elbow lenth sleeves. I went to the store and got a pink one – it looks like they only have black online. But you can see it here:
I’m so excited for you guys! I think buying in multiples is a great idea for you. Since you’ve been shoe shopping lately, I have a question. Have you checked out the new style of Tevas (e.g., http://www.zappos.com/product/7374002/color/3)? I’m wondering if they’re any good…
@Rachel – that hoodie is so cute! @feisty – I’ve only bought the basic flip-flop from Teva and they didn’t have enough support. Those look WAY more durable.
I bought the North Face Convertible Porter Pants in asphalt for my trip to Germany/Denmark/Czech and LOVED them. I also now wear them for everyday normal summer wear or road trips. It’s really 3 pairs of bottoms in one- shorts, capris & pants. I definetly recommend investing in a pair of them.
